Obitus-The March of the Drones
Now this is something I can hang with. Mega-dynamic black metal that sounds refreshingly new while still not entering the "hipster metal" canon of which I despise. Fucking harsh quiet dynamics are insane; accoustic melodic passages then give way to a wall of feedback, precision-razor shark double bass drumming, standard black metal screams but you can understand the lyrics which is a nice change so you can actually hear how hoateful the lyrics are instead of just assuming. I bet most people will hate this album, oh well. It reminds me of sorta vintage Gorgoroth meeting vintage At the Gates; melodic death meets hateful no-fi black. Not drone metal thats for sure. |
When they were on fire, I'd put the Pumpkins' riffs up against all comers. |

I forgot this since it's over with the 45's and not with the cd's so I backtracked and listened to: 3.5/5 then back to the normal rotation with: 3.5/5 The old songs didn't need to be messed with, plus Ric Ocasek's production on most of the album is annoying as hell. Where's the low end? The Reggaee/Dub tracks on this one are/sound great though. |

The EP is good. The "Doomsday" remix and "Imposters" are both worth the price of the disc. Plus the rough version of "No Snakes" is great. All the Grimm tracks are really good on there as well. |
