This is why Drake is pop music for me. I love some of his songs and listen to them regularly because I like some pop songs. They are not hip hop songs though.

that performance is pretty good.

It's not going to be last either.

well it does get played on the radio. so it's pop music.

Public Enemy used to get radio play, right? i guess they were pop too.

rapping over a beat makes you hip-hop. Drake is just as hip-hop as KRS-One or whatever.

Genteel Death 07.07.2015 04:50 PM

All modern black music is hip hop or rap to louder. And psych/progressive to Severian. They all rock.

Rob Instigator 07.07.2015 04:50 PM

when did PE get radio play?

They actually rapped about how even BLACK radio did not play them!

louder 07.07.2015 04:52 PM

no offense but old white people's opinion on hip-hop just sucks (especially rock heads), i find the last few posts cringeworthy and simply painful to read. y'all are some cornballs who are stuck in the past, out of the loop and just don't get it.

hip-hop hasn't gotten worse at all. in fact it's better now thanks to technology, the production sounds smoother and far more advanced, a lot of rappers produce their own beats now which results in unique sounds, as opposed to most rappers in the 80s-90s they aren't afraid to show feelings and implement a lot more emotion in their songs, the subject matters are a lot more varied and diverse, there are just so many different styles now, there's basically something for everybody.

that means that Blondie is hip hop, madonna is hip hop, michael jackson is hip hop, and Anthony Kiedis is hip hop

excuse me, you're the one making ignorant comments like "Drake is not hip hop". music with RAPPING IS hip hop, period. and i do actually listen to black music all the time (most music by white artists doesn't really move me anymore).

I agree, and Drake makes most of his $$ appealing to white, middle-class kids. something for everyone. 2 $hort would kick his ass.

BLACK people love Drake. every hood loves and respects Drake nowadays.

louder 07.07.2015 04:58 PM

Drake's career was actually launched by J. Prince (who founded Rap-A-Lot records AKA Geto Boys' label), who still gives him mad love. he is respected by pretty much every legend in the game, from Ghostface to Nas to LL Cool, etc.

Genteel Death 07.07.2015 05:00 PM

Hip Hop may be better now, whatever. Beyonce or Drake is not hip hop. I like, sometimes love, some of their music, but they are not hip hop. Wakey wakey.

how does it feel to be a 40-something year old constantly trolling a forum and crying for attention.

Pop doesn't necessarily mean 'bad'. if it appeals to lot of people and there's something for everyone then it's pop. wasn't putting anything down. Hip Hop is pop music now!

also, I liked that performance you posted of him on Fallon.
