sounds awesome!

i'm gonna roast some chickens today

i haven't bought any meat since december and i have a reezer full of red meats but the nose wanted bird. so i bought 2.

i found this recipe:

VIKING CHICKEN

"low brow and hard to mess up."

my kind of food!

i got some old apples to get rid of which works perfect.

schizophrenicroom 02.16.2015 02:28 PM

oh, that chicken looks good.

evolghost- yum. i like sweet potatoes with maple syrup and cayenne pepper on top.

yes it does. i have eggplants, sweet potatoes and some mixed vegetables for it.

but because i have 2 chickens i'm using one to make this first:

http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/c...B2AVDQhqZ9f.97

like milk steak! boiled HARD! with jelly beans! but for serious, i had some milk leftover so this works. also i didn't have lemons (only key limes) and i used zest from oranges instead. and i didn't have sage (not even dry) so i'm using thyme. thyme w/ orange *should* work out. fingers crossed.

now it's in the oven i have 90 minutes to destroy.

schizophrenicroom 02.16.2015 03:58 PM

milk steak!best served with a bag of spaghetti. thyme with orange sounds fine.

I made cacio e pepe for lunch. then ate more pecorino by itself. do let me know how the chicken comes out.

Rob Instigator 02.16.2015 04:17 PM

boiled over hard!

Bytor Peltor 02.16.2015 06:42 PM

DQ Nachos is what my daughter wanted for a snack between school and dance......and they were soooo good! (ours also had lettuce and tomatoes)

you ever made cacio e pepe w/ ramen? look up david chang's version (i think it was him).

eta: if you're ever out of parmesan/pecorino, try the hippie version of it-- nutritional yeast. good stuff, cheap, rich in glutamates.

--

the chicken came out pretty good but a bit too sweet tasting for me

i think i put too much cinnamon

the way i'd redo this would be by adding some curry powder instead (kinda like a chicken tikka)

also the suggested serving ("with greens or spinach") seems insufficient. i'd add a mound of rice or something. which i'll do for the reheats (maybe i'll add teh curry powder then & see).

the viking chicken is out of the oven but i won't eat till later. looks plenty crispy. i didn't have butter so i used bacon fat instad.

i need to get me a camera that doesn't show all my private info like the exif data on iphone photos.

!@#$%! 02.16.2015 08:19 PM

plus:

the so-called viking chicken came out tastier-- crispy & savory

the only problem was the bottom part that sits on the vegetable had soggy skin-- so next time i'll spatchcock the fucker-- skin up, cavity down.

the corn at the bottom (i had these frozen mixed veggies to dispatch-- corn/carrot/peas/green beans) roasted really dark & nice. the eggplant added a bit of heat. sweet from the apples & sweet potatos. the onions roasted darked too. the orange i tied up inside the bird was really tasty. the bacon fat probably worked better than the butter would have.

after deboning the bird & peeling the vegs i mixed it all up & ended with 1 gallon of tasty garbage-- i mean it looks like a mess but it's gooood. sort of like a dryish stew, kinda like when you cook meat underground (not sure you've ever done that). meaning it's all nicely cooked soft & moist but not boiled.

it all tastes like sweet victory. i think i'm set for the whole week.

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 12:00 AM

ohh, bacon fat. you had me there. and egg plant. i can't reply coherently to either of your posts because i'm salivating too much.

bytor- i love their chicken tenders. i'm a big kid.

i forgot to say i went to TJs the other day and took a look at their various salads (garbanzo etc). we photographed the labels so i can rip off the recipes. i got the idea from your meal the other day. anyway i'll keep you posted on that.

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 04:44 PM

i'm hoping my replacement ebt card came in today so i'm gonna make a trip to tjs. i want their perogies.

oy, no! that's how the money bleeds fast.

the way to stretch a buck is to make those things.

http://allrecipes.com/recipe/grandmas-polish-perogies/

"ready in 2 hours"

then you have a bunch of leftover ingredients for the next day

if you don't have a rolling pin just use a bottle

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 05:16 PM

oh shit, and i can make that in my kitchen. i think i'll do that this weekend.

hell yes. you can make a nice afternoon of it by inviting a friend to bring over drinks, and cooking while you hang out.

what you wanna buy is not prepared foods (a ripoff that will keep you poor), but basic staples-- and the seasonings to work them. when buying produce, try to buy frozen only-- they are a way better deal because they don't go bad and the supply chain doesn't need to compensate for spoilage. and yes, chopped kale comes frozen (for your garbanzo salad).

schizophrenicroom 02.17.2015 11:08 PM

I had quinoa with sun dried tomatoes, more kale, green beans, tomatoes, and chili sauce. all fresh. my card came so whoot. before that at a Thai place I had a peanut curry with tofu. so good.

yeah, this weekend is perogie time when it isn't pouring and I can go walk and stock up.

!@#$%! 02.17.2015 11:22 PM

i was browsing pierogi recipes (too much work for my ADD but i'm curious) and looks like you can make a bunch of dough at a time and freeze for later use. which reminds me i have a pizza doughball in the freezer (for the weekend i guess--just take it out a day before)

also, the weird milk chicken tasted way better with curry powder. suck on that, jaime oliver!

aaaand here's how you start a pantry:

ha ha ha. my favorite! (just aged cayenne, vinegar and salt. no weird colors, no garlic, no nothing).

!@#$%! 02.18.2015 09:45 AM

i was looking at bodbuilder diets and found this video. it's insane. enough food to feed a beast for $50/week:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MNctsEFp7Zs

i can't eat like that, but wow.

schizophrenicroom 02.18.2015 01:48 PM

I struggle to eat enough, as hungry as I am. thinking about bodybuilders and like, nfl players freaks me out.

that hot sauce looks fantastic. I like garlic in my hot sauce most times, though... garlic nut in me.

I'm currently eating an egg/tofu/cheese/pepper burrito my friend made. with sriracha. last night we drove to Georgia and found a too wing place/bar still open and they were delicious.

EVOLghost 02.18.2015 03:13 PM

had my first paczki yesterday.
