A pretty good listen but the extent of their decline is apparent.

Haha. That has to be rare. I have the cd version, decent album.
The early songs take the biggest hit... the new stuff shines though.

It was originally a cassette-only release. It would have been vinyl otherwise. Minutemen's My First Bells was also cassette only and I have that. I don't know what it was with SST and their love of cassettes.

Especially since they sound like shit...

They did seem to be reserved for non-studio albums. BFs was live (obviously!) and Minutemen's was a compilation. But yes it was the worst format for sound quality.

I'm sure it had something to do with the easy availability of blank cassetes and their cheapness.

When it was considered a throwaway release a la Live '84, they just put it out as cheap as possible. My theory at least.
