his music from the 80's sucked with capital puke and he can be very boring.

still, he's written so many great songs but still.

i will rep you for stating the genius of 1970. and for the record, all iggy solo records suck, save for a few songs here and there, the idiot and lust for life suck.

porky: what do you mean quoting t&b? and "again"?

to me david bowie just sounds really mediocre and i'm baffled why people love him so much, i can't really think of one bowie song i have strong feelings for either way. when i was about 5 years old i loved space oddity though because it's a song about someone called tom.

Rob Instigator 08.16.2007 10:05 AM

C'mon Tom, make a little bit more effort! There's two Bowie songs that namecheck you, the other one being Ashes To Ashes.

[quote=Everyneurotic] more talented than him (ahem, marc bolan, for once) quote]

Oh I don't know - Bowie and Bolan were about neck and neck in the early 70's, and it's hard to judge what Bolan's talent would have produced had he lived.

As for hogging other people's limelight - he's an entertainer, that's his job.
If other musicians weren't as fabulous as Ziggy, that's not Bowie's fault. He can't be blamed for other people's mediocrity.

Rob Instigator 08.16.2007 10:15 AM

yeah, they were neck to neck, in the 70's, in england; and now, all music posers are like "david bowie is the greatest" when perhaps 20% of those people have heard just "bang a gong", let alone the slider and/or electric warrior.

and by your logic, then kiss must be the greatest band in the world and, say, the new york dolls, a bunch of mediocre people. i mean, they are not as fabulous entertainers as gene simmons and company.

i do think that one of bowie's biggest talents is finding and surrounding himself with amazing songwriters, producers and musicians.

Cantankerous 08.16.2007 10:27 AM

lovely of you to not respond when i call you out on your creepiness
