VeeAtchOneKlassique just played "Classic Albums: Nevermind". Some guy named Thurston had some pithy input here and there.

Talk about yr reactions to music, I wholeheartedly and steadfastly ignored it. More pop trash--bunch a wannabees. I found a used copy (what was that person thinking?) and man, I just about wore that thing out.

great album. not their best. good songs... way too over produced for my taste.. but still, great album, great band.

but kurt's songwriting abilities just basically makes it a great record. that and nostaligic reasons

before that record came out i wouldn't even entertain the idea of listening to rock music.

Yesterday I downloaded some MIDI files for all of the songs on Nevermind and In Utero. You should hear "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" in MIDI.

great band.... important album but not their best, in utero gets that prize..... anyone who says otherwise is just being cooler than thou indie....

on a plain should have been recorded and put on in utero. Have it more raw, but with those same bad ass beatlesque harmonies!

Overall I think the collection of songs on nevermind are a bit stronger, but in utero has it's unique presence....and the production on In Utero wins hands down. That recorded sounds sick.

good album. I could do without ever hearing any of it again, though.

when nevermind came out, it was one of those albums you could keep on flipping over and over, each side was great, and it rocked HARD.

i've heard these songs so many times that the whole album is predictable, boring and dull to me.. haha i just can't stand it anymore.

The "worst" of the three, for me, but still great if played in moderation. I mean I can't listen to Teen Spirit anymore, but it was good before it was murdered.

I still think Bleach kicks In Utero's ass. Hard. It's probably in my top 10 albums of all time.

I agree. I also wish Lithium had been heavier. Those are my favorite two songs off Nevermind, but they both have something missing.

Would I have preferred a better (worse) production sound? Sure. But when all is done and said, it's a record of great songs beginning to end.

My fave is Incesticide. Not really an album per se, but a great collection of some of their best work.

Each Nirvana album has pros and cons:

Bleach:
+ Some awesome riffs
+ Even the heavier songs are catchy
- Chad Channing just does not carry the band like Dave Grohl
- Lacks depth in some ways

Nevermind:
+ Greater variety in songs
+/- Gave alternative rock mainstream credibility
- Overproduced in parts

In Utero:
+ Kurt's rawest lyrics
+ Polarized feel actually works well
- Muddled production in parts

There's like 3 good songs on Nevermind. What a predictable, boring, shitty little record. Can't deny its "importance" though it's EASILY Nirvana's worst.

I still think it's a great record. I don't care about the aftermath, nor I listen to it much anymore. It's a great record by a great band which means a lot to me, that's all. If I was so concerned about the things that concern atsonicpark so much, I'd hate everything.

I just don't think it's that special and has never in my life struck me as anything that great, even when I was a kid. I loved In Utero a lot more 15 or so years ago and nowadays I think FROM THE MUDDY BANKS is their best album...

It was a special record by a special band. Why do you seem concerned about it? Do you not like it when something is special?

When this came up last i listened again and side 2 is pretty good but side 1, i know the songs inside out and it didn't excite me. still love the album for everything it means rather than just the music.

fuckin true... grohl keeps a beat and helps marking the parts of the songs... channing is more like a mess of drumrolls and stuff.. but i guess it worked well for bleach

This album makes me want to listen to Killing Joke.

Also, "Drain You" really is a brilliant song.

theres this part in 'endless nameless' that sounds like... sonic youth.. the quiet bit. love it.

In bloom is such an ace song to bash out on the drums, great fun. I made a tune on my guitar a few days ago, but I worry that it sounds slightly similar to the come as you are :eek:

The record becomes predictable and boring after you've heard it a 100 times but I'll never forget the feeling I used to get from it when it was fresh.

Um, no, I'm not referring to listening to it 100 times, I'm referring to listening to it the first time and hearing nearly every verse-chorus-verse-chorus-guitar solo that follows the melody of the verses exactly-chorus song with a few variations here or there (but no MAJOR variations except perhaps the middle of "Drain You" and the acoustic songs). I have no problem with simple songs, and the same structure is prevalent in most Nirvana songs, but this album in particular has nothing creative going on in it except the riff in "Come As You Are" (which is a Killing Joke ripoff!) and the middle of "Drain You" and the cello in "Something in the Way". The star of the album is definitely Krist, who has some really neat bass lines here or there, and that bass distortion on "Breed" is awesome. I just find most of the riffs and songs kinda bland and dull, first listen or 100th listen, with a few exceptions.

In Utero is half an amazing album and half THE WORST SHIT NIRVANA HAS EVER RECORDED ("Rape Me"?! "Pennyroyal Tea"? "Tourette's"? All awful). Good thing the good shit is really good.

Bleach has some truly brilliant songs; so raw and nasty. That riff in "Negative Creep"... what is that? Noisey, grungey (!), a great little record.

Incesticide is b-sides and throwaways, yet somehow it's their most interesting record! Has my favorite Nirvana song on it, "Aneurysm".

Always was indifferent towards Unplugged in New York. Just don't think most of the songs work acoustically. As much as I usually jack off for the sound of guitars with holes in them, this is a dull record.

Live from the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah is awesome, except for "Heart-Shaped Box" (which I always hated) and a few other stinkers. It's got some awesome fucking songs on it; the DEFINITIVE version of "Aneurysm" and "Spank Thru" which is amongst my favorite Nirvana songs.

With the Lights Out has some truly awful shit that should've never have seen the light of day but it has some great stuff too, like "Marigold" (which had been released before but...).

Nirvana's a pretty good band, and I enjoy watching their live videos more than listening to their records.
