terminal pharmacy 02.06.2007 08:15 PM

i havent heard much of their work, i have the low dirty three fish tank and it is awesome, i want to hear more

porkmarras 02.06.2007 08:24 PM

I'd find it rather rich for some people to go on and do their indie bitter balh blah against this band in particular. They are a bit like the little brother who doesn't eat much but charms you in every occasion with his naivety. The fact that he is so introverted might mean that some gorgeous stuff is hidden in his mind and comes up unexpectedly when you less expect it.Bollocks,Low are masters of beauty and their feet should be kissed by many a virgin abandoned on Hayden's doorstep.

porkmarras 02.06.2007 08:31 PM

Another thing in favour of Low is that they go down very well with most foods.Try Low and pate on toast:you can't go wrong with that .

porkmarras 02.06.2007 08:32 PM

Low's relationship with house furniture:great! They mix with pastels and leather couches like no other band.Try them.

Toilet & Bowels 02.06.2007 08:41 PM

i used to listen to them a lot, but now i don't, i don't like them any less i just don't feel the urge to listen to sad music as much as i used to

porkmarras 02.06.2007 09:09 PM

I've never found their music to be too sad and i never get the impression it draws inspiration from just that feeling .Then again i have been listening to them tonight for the first time since Paulybee sent me their new album and probably i won't for another while.

Dead-Air 02.07.2007 01:09 AM

I like them, and could give a fuck about their religion since they don't pepper their music or lyrics with it. Mormonism is a cult that people get born into and have a hard time getting out of, a lot like Scientology, because even moreso than traditional religion, they were built with that specifically in mind.

Things We Lost in the Fire is a great record. I've always tended to play radio station copies rather than buy my own for whatever reason though...

_slavo_ 02.07.2007 03:07 AM

I still love listening to their early stuff, the newer albums never really grew on me (well, maybe except for Drums&Guns). My faves are the following:

1. I Could Live in Hope
2. Songs for a dead pilot EP
3. Curtain hits the Cast
4. Things we lost in the fire
5. Secret Name
6. Long division

Tokolosh 02.07.2007 04:30 AM

I've only heard Things We Lost In The Fire, and want to hear more.
Good music for falling asleep.

I've been repeatedly tempted to get the Low box set, but haven't actually done so yet. Should I?

Things we lost in the fire is pretty good place to start to.

The earlier LP, the darker and slower it is.

the low box set is a treat for the price. think i picked mine up for £15 sterling. that's 3 cds and a dvd. the dvd is worth the price alone. highly intimate fly on the wall documentary with plenty of tunes . . only adds to ones admiration . . and furthers ones desire to see them live for the first time . . . . which i shall manage to do this may. oh joy. the cds are full of rarities unreleased and the like with many a gem to be found. different versions of old songs/stripped down or demo cuts all add to the hushed and simple nature of the band and it's unique style. the slowest and quitest music around. i thought the great destroyer was a let down though.

btw. when is the new album released anyone? (ah bollocks i'll just go and look)

Well, every religion is a cult, really. Some are just larger than others.

Low's brand of Mormonism is pretty damn modern in any case; they are not what I would refer to as "uptight" or "conservative" people in the least. And yes, they keep it to themselves and their music is not "message music" for their religion, so who cares really? Total agreement there.

They are a fine band. I was really into them when they first came out, and living in this area I have gotten to see them quite a few times. I also was lucky enough to share a studio with their (longtime, now former) bassist Zak Sally for a number of years, and thus got to see what a fantastic visual artist and comics genius he is.
Check out Zak's publishing company; well worth it. I get everything he puts out, and have yet to be disappointed. I highly recommend Zak's book "Recidivist." The William Schaff portfolio package is a thing of beauty as well.

I hope i didn't come across as if i care about what their religion is or isn't.It was more a sarcastic comment towards the fact it is something that somehow gets mentioned so often about them but has nothing to do with the music anyway.
