Bad Music VS Good Music

What does this sterile concept mean to you in 2008? Will there ever be an agreement on what constitutes a good record away from all the aesthetical wanktalk that surrounds it? Is it important to you? Do you like cashew nuts?

cunt talk.
no.
no.
no.

nicfit 01.06.2008 12:13 PM

StevOK 01.06.2008 12:49 PM

There's an interesting response to this thread. Boredom is an incredibly abstract concept. There is music that at times I find unnecessarily long, but other times it enters your ears in a totally adequate manner. That taught me a lot about not giving any absolute judgement about a record unless I am 100% sure that it is complete and utter shite. There's stuff that I listen to (Moondog etc) that I adore, but sometimes I have been listening in the wrong mood for it. What do you make of that?

themawt71 01.06.2008 01:27 PM

relative...mostly

✌➬ 01.06.2008 01:43 PM

As long as it doesn't become redundant in the second or third song.

I pretty much agree. I think sometimes I say "boring" when I really mean to say "mediocre". Lots of stuff just doesn't affect me. Give me something dynamic, or at least not formulaic.

themawt71 01.06.2008 02:03 PM

how much has to do with the mechanics of the music ie..the melody harmony rhythms etc.. and how much has to do with the (not to get too hippie shitty) soul or spirit of the musicians and/or listeners? tangible intangible.....

I have a wanky answer and one that is Meh. I shall treat you to the latter.

Meh.

Dead-Air 01.06.2008 02:36 PM

Cashews are better than peanuts but nowhere near as good a Brazil nuts.

GrungeMonkey 01.06.2008 03:18 PM

cashews are the pinaccle of the nut as far as i'm concerned

themawt71 01.06.2008 03:21 PM

█████████ 01.06.2008 04:06 PM

i think everybody should have bad boring music moments.

Norma J 01.06.2008 06:10 PM

First you must discover the definition of 'right' and 'wrong', 'good' and 'bad'.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.06.2008 06:27 PM

To me a bad record is a record that strays from what it was originally intended to be.

Norma J 01.06.2008 09:32 PM

Not all records would intend to do anything inparticular though?

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 01.06.2008 09:44 PM

Well I guess it wouldn't be a bad record but something else, I don't know where I was going with the thought. It sounded nice. But really there is no such thing as a bad record because there is always someone who enjoys it.
