"The Eraser" thread... the return.

Once i said on this board that Thom Yorke was a genius but his solo songs weren't that good, he needed radiohead guys to make the stuff sounds brilliant...

I'm coming back to say i was very much wrong. At that time i haven't even given a good listen to the album.

And after a few listenings... i realized how inventive and peculiar sounds those songs. The eraser is a masterpiece constructed by a genius of our time.

It''s the most beautiful record of the year so far.

_slavo_ 07.28.2006 01:07 PM

the eraser is not a good record, believe me.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 07.28.2006 01:10 PM

i think the eraser is over-rated
its one of those albums pitchfork would have a wankfest to
they're like omgthomyorkeSPLURGE

thom needs to stick with radiocabeza

_slavo_ 07.28.2006 01:15 PM

gonna see the RHead in August. Can't wait, as I'm a diehard fan.
Just hope there'll be no Eraser shit whatsoever.

i'm going to see em in August also, somebody told me before i heard "the eraser" that it was like Kid A before the Greenwood Brothes got their hands on it, i think this is a good comparision. its not a bad album by any means, its just gonna take that little extra time to digest it with me.

HaydenAsche 07.28.2006 03:17 PM

I like it. All of your opinions matter much less than mine.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 07.28.2006 03:21 PM

they were awesome @ bonnarooooo

huoxito 07.28.2006 07:15 PM

fuck...

Am i the only one in this thread who loved that album?

And yes The Eraser is a good record. I love Sonic Youth but I'd rather listen to The Eraser than the standard Rather Ripped.

Thom voice is so strong and beautiful, besides he sings simple phrases in an amazing way.

Give a listen to songs like "And it rained all night" "Hrrowdown Hill" or "The Eraser" you'll see what i mean.

m^a(t)h 07.28.2006 07:58 PM

i saw it just a minute ago at best buy for $15, pretty steep but I should have bought it

krastian 07.28.2006 10:09 PM

I still haven't heard it.....I did hear some on the Henry Rollins Show and on the extra footage up on ifc.com.

IntoTheGroovey 07.28.2006 11:18 PM

I liked it. It's good but not great. Black Swan and Atoms for Peace are highlights.

schizophrenicroom 07.28.2006 11:19 PM

i prefer radiohead.

krastian 07.28.2006 11:22 PM

Here's the link to the Thom Yorke stuff from Henry's show....click where it says "SELECT A BAND." There is some other good stuff there too.

you start to repeat yourself hayden.

nicfit 07.29.2006 06:03 AM

and it rained all night is a great song. skip divided and black swan are very good too.the other tracks are not very interesting in my opinion, but still it's a nice album, nothing groundbraking or too pretentious, and the latter is a good thing.

this doesnt happen a lot but i disagree slavo. i think eraser is great, album of the year so far!

huoxito 07.29.2006 09:51 PM

The Eraser is definitly a ground-breaking record followed by Kid A. Thom Yorke created a new concept of music,

he broke all those old song structures and arrangements...

well,he surely isn't the first to do so...i am not dissing his works,i love them, but music history had its revolutions waaay before tommy started singing/writing music...in my opinion,at least.

alyasa 07.30.2006 09:50 AM

Does it sound anything like Aphex Twin? or Boards of Canada?

noisemachine 07.30.2006 11:38 AM

My local alternative station is playing the hell out of Black Swan, and so far its the only song ive heard from it. To me it sounds like an outtake from Kid A or Amnesiac, not as good as any song on either of those albums. Its not bad, but nothing groundbreaking either.

That being said, I was fortunate enough to see Radiohead earlier this summer in Berkeley. They were absolutely amazing. They played a lot of new material and it sounds awesome. If the stuff they played gives any indication of how the entire new album will be, its gonna be much better than Hail to the Theif, and maybe even Amnesiac.

i keep trying to listen to it, but the only tracks i can get into are "skip divided" and "the eraser". the rest of it just sounds like radiohead lite! (exclamation point included). after watching the "meeting people is easy" dvd with my girlfriend, and seeing thom play with different synths and bleepbloop making machines, i would've expected an album that involved more than techno with thom yorke singing over it. i blame the success of that "idiotheque" song.

Neongod 07.31.2006 07:46 PM

Seriously...this is a REALLY good album.

alyasa 07.31.2006 10:58 PM

Have heard it. Faint echoes of Richard D. James and Boards of Canada. Will require more listening before passing judgement.

word. well put.

Kylerobert 08.03.2006 11:47 AM

The album is really good. I don't think it's that groundbreaking but who cares? I don't think Rather Ripped is groundbreaking. This doesn't make it a bad album. The album was a very good idea and I found myself trying to duplicate and create similar sounds after I listened to the album. Thom Yorke's voice is very powerful in the Eraser.

alyasa 08.03.2006 04:32 PM

Form what I've heard so far, it sounds like sublimation into subzero gases. Like cold washes of electronic bleeps and beats over the shore of your mind. Try it, it's fun! :)
