I've got Boss RC 20. I use it mainly for playing live as a source of loops that I process with chain of pedals.
Works perfectly, has got very clean sound and looooong memory to store samples in. Can play samples backward. The only drawback in my eyes is that you can't pitch the loops up/down or time-stretch them or you know, that kind of thing. But I guess that'd be too much to ask for.

thanks mucho slavoman.
I'm not sure about the actual differences between the "regular" one and the XL (I'm just starting to search for something along those lines), but I guess it's pretty similar in usage.
Not sure why, but my mind is already set either on that or the digitech jam man...

always great to see and hear custom home made effect units, do you know a lot about the audio electronics involved then or would you call yrself more of a novice?

cool!

I'd consider myself more than a novice. I know enough to be able to alter and combine circuits, but at this point I can't really design them from the ground up yet. I'd say at this point I'm a mid-level hacker when it comes to electronics.

I'd like to be able to call myself an engineer at some point.

hey look ;)!

this will change soon coz I'm preparing a smaller setup for guit and have some changes in this too...

p.s. did someone mention this http://www.shoegazers.org/viewtopic.php?f=232&t=11223 already?

hirsute_biped 02.24.2011 11:47 PM

I got a boss DD-7 digital delay a while ago. it's my first delay pedal, so hard to compare with anything other than the Roland Space Echo RE-150 my old roommate had, which is not really a fair comparison. I guess each are capable of things the others cannot do; apples and oranges. The DD-7 makes a decent loop, has a backwards effect, and very long loop times. Sweeping the delay time back and forth can get some progressively mangled/decayed noise/delay washes...

Believe it or not i don't have anything for overdrive/distortion/fuzz. And my amp's reverb has been broken for a long time. I should do something about these situations. I want to try Build Your Own Clone some time. Any opinions and them?

The repeat purcussion "tremelo" (vibrato) on my 1969 Ampeg Gemini G-12 amp is a pretty awesome effect, esp w/ "after beat" switch engaged. Very Sandy Bull.

Can we have an amplifier thread too (he said without looking for one first)?

Norma J 02.25.2011 12:04 AM

^I've heard Build Your Own Clone make some good replica pedals for half the price. So... why not?

A few will be coming into the studio in the coming days as I'm designing some shells for them, so when I hear them I'll come back in and give my opinion on them.

Anybody here ever mess around with a BOSS Metal Zone? I recently acquired one from my bass player and if you know how to work with it, it can get some pretty great distortion sounds... I can see why a lot of old shoegaze bands used one.

Showgaze? That is the the metal pedal. That is Metallica in a box. Throw it out because it has been done to death.

Jeremy 02.26.2011 02:20 AM

Actually I still stand it's a very good distortion if you know what you're doing with it (One tiny knob twist can make it sound like a jumbled mess).

I'll probably retire it for a ProCat Classic Rat though.

Awesome! :D

Those gigantic patch cables take up about half your board though.

That's why I put i/o jacks on top of all my pedals, it saves a lot of space. I wish more manufacturers would do it. If I have two pedals with side-mounted jacks, I usually put one slightly above the other so that the jacks don't line up, and then I can squeeze them closer together.

nicfit 02.26.2011 10:08 AM

yeeey!
I got kinda less bulky cables in the meantime, will put things together better soon.
Oh and I have big feet, it's good to have some distance between switches anyway ehehhe ;).
919 I do want!
I have not much to add in there (just the 919/616 instead of the mxr and perhaps a reverb, but a smaaaaal one), I should be ok with dimensions, I can switch the tentaclooper with the bacalooper if needed and use the tentaclooper in another smaller setup I'm planning in the future...and I want a jamman (wich will stay out of the "main board" in any case), not 100% sure if it's worth to go for the stero one (just for the metal switches) or the one with boss-like switches...

hirsute_biped 02.26.2011 04:46 PM

I want one of these:
http://www.surprisesoundlab.com/index.html
tube based od/dist. pedal, also works as a super low power amp! too much money for me! aaaaaggggghhhh!

similarly, these adjustable efficiency speakers (functioning as an attenuator w/out tone loss) seem awesome and too expensive for me:

I just got a Fulltone Full-Drive 2 used kind of on an impulse buy at a rad used gear place I'd never been into before. They had lots of the funky old weird stuff.

http://www.timewarpmusic.com/index.p...tent=home.html

seems like exactly what I needed, good price. They have all ages shows there too, I should go check some out....

Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport vs Malekko Lofi Ekko 616?

CHOUT 10.18.2011 02:35 AM

got this on ebay recently for a sikk price:

Pawn shop score recently:
Ibanez AD202 Analog Delay
Not too exciting visually, but you can get some crazy delay/modulation action!
