Tuesday, August 22nd, 3pm - 6pm: Guest DJ Tom Lax from Siltbreeze Records
The annual visit from our pal Tom Lax, bringing up yet another assortment of obscuro and extremely special 7" singles wax from Siltbreeze headquarters in Philadelphia. If you've checked out this special in past years you know that you will certainly be hearing a lot of DIY/post-punk and general oddball stuff you will probably not hear anywhere else (and see as well, as we will be posting the sleeve art on the playlist page live). Not to be missed!

Podcasts:

Astonishing Legends. If you're interested in going down the rabbit holes of cryptozoology, aliens, conspiracies, and well, legends, then you might find this show fascinating.

My Dad Wrote A Porno. It's a guy reading the porn novels his dad wrote. Ridiculous and hilarious.

The Gilmore Guys. I just started this myself, but I've always loved the show The Gilmore Girls, and promised myself if I ever decided to re-watch the series I'd try and catch the podcasts afterward. It's a little rough going but if you love the show too, you may wan to check it out.

Jen Cloher's Musical Navigators

Quote:

Jen Cloher is a beacon in Australian music. She's one of our best songwriters, and a great champion of her peers. Whether it's running management workshops, or co-founding Milk Records, her sage advice and keen ears propel others. But what about the artists who light a path for her? From Patti Smith to Gareth Liddiard, Camp Cope to PJ Harvey, this is a conversation about so much more than music.

Adalita - "Free Money [Live]"

The Drones - "Taman Shud"

Camp Cope - "The Opener"

PJ Harvey - "The Words That Maketh Murder"

Evelyn Ida Morris - "The Body Appears"

Very articulate, very intelligent, I really recommend this interview. There are other cool Take 5 episodes available as well. And even though it says Apple Podcasts, you don't need any Apple shit to listen; just click "play".

one of my favorite actresses, and she has good musical taste, too

Well whaddayaknow, just now I found another very cool one. I've loved this actor ever since he played an atheist priest on House ("Father Nietzsche", the doc called him...)

My Favorite Album: Jimmi Simpson on The Smiths' The Queen Is Dead
"Music kind of runs my life. I'm never not soundtracking my own experience."

Bonus interview: Jimmi Simpson on Perpetual Grace, LTD, Westworld, Morrissey, and Bill Callahan

The Great John Cage Project - in Lockdown
By John Wills

4:33 is a silent composition by American experimental composer John Cage emphasising the sounds of the listener's environment while it is performed.

Contributors from around the world share their 4:33 recordings in the Coronavirus era to greatjcproject@gmail.com

4'33" isn't about listening to nothing. It's about listening to everything.

Haven't listened to it yet, but the titles at least look promising - none of the pieces is called, "Spreading butter on a piece of bread while I wait for the bloody quarantine to end". Actually, that's not that bad of a title...
