Peg: Al, I want sex.
Al: Well, so do I. But I don't see the need to bring you into it.

Sonic Youth - Dissapearer, third time in a row. I'm in the mood for the track.

Yes, I am a fan. 'Hitch Hike' stands out there.. is it as good as the studio version from '65?

gmku 07.09.2008 02:55 PM

No. Sound quality is not good on this. The vocals are buried, especially on that track. Very lo-fi, but made up for in the fun factor.

This was recorded on a kid's reel-to-reel, in his suburban bedroom, off a live radio show broadcast in 1964. So take that as an indication.

Oh, terrible. The studio version is muddy enough! It's a shame, they're great songs but a lot of them weren't done justice in the studio.

gmku 07.09.2008 03:04 PM

But it's got a great energy. You feel like you're in those clubs. The band just doesn't sound miked well.

And I love the attitude on that cover!

viewtiful_alan 07.09.2008 03:07 PM

Sure its not his best stuff, but it is most certainly an enjoyable album.

viewtiful_alan 07.09.2008 03:08 PM

My copy doesn't have Iggy's name or the ablum title on the cover...
rare collectable?

gmku 07.09.2008 03:09 PM

Iggy, rare and collectible? Come on...

I've read that in some studio instances they had one mic for the band and then one for Jerry to sing into. Sort of gives you the gist of how ham-fisted the whole process was.

And those cover photos are great, they're all done by Jini Dellaccio, she was the only professional photographer to shoot them in their career.

Scratch that... Beat Em' Up is pretty damn bad.
Lets face it, Iggy needs some sort of musical catalyst (bowie, the stooges) to be good. He rarely gets it right on his own...
