How A Record Should Make You Feel....

It appears to me there are essentially five different feelings or vibes I get:

1.When Its over I feel completely satisfied and content with the music.

2.When its over I want more, this is due to it either being shorter than expected or just excellent.

3.I'm listening to it in hopes of surprise, which I never catch, and therefore can't wait for it to end.

4.Did I miss something, let me go back and have another listen, this usually is indicative of either a really good album or a really bad album.

5.This is horrible, I won't tolerate another minute.

usualy a turd album when u skip through the songs after 45 seconds because it didnt capture you

I like it when it makes me feel ill. There's only a few that do that. NNCK's letters from the earth and pretty much anything by Haino do it.

I like it when a record has that feeling like it's by the Fall. There's only really the Fall do that, so that's a pretty exclusive feeling.

music is, and totally should be...up to interpretation. unless yr awesome color or some trash like that, then you should just say "stooges rip offs".

okaye that was wrong sorry.

I see your point, but am I really asking too much, what I said was about the essentials. Sure, a hundred records make you feel a hundred different things, emotions, etc....but when you boil it down what are the intrinsic qualities of each album.....

shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....
just listen to a good record and shut up.

A record should be round, and should go around and around.

discuss?

all plausible responses, but seem kind of arbitrary. certainly does not cover all. so i don't know if it's "essential". but nice effort i think.

i would add stuff like "wow this is amazing" while it plays but then when it ends i have no idea of what happened.

one frequent response i have is "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT!!!" -- which is meant to express amazement or a pleasant surprise (in art, i hate the expected, and i love to be suprised).

but anyway i'm not trying to cover all. i woke up at 4am and i'm quite zonked.

if i can't stop myself from singing or dancing it then it's a good one.

If you don't feel like your precious time and/or precious funds have been wasted, you're doing pretty well.

LittlePuppetBoy 12.03.2006 08:33 PM

a good record makes you want to listen to it again.

Inhuman 12.03.2006 08:45 PM

It is like the smell of that flower. A whisper to your ear from the person you love. A complex gratification from something seemingly only satisfactory. It is having the true architecture to be presented to directly to you.

atsonicpark 12.03.2006 09:25 PM

good music should make you laugh, cry, feel horny, and fight.

gmku 12.04.2006 01:02 AM

A good record justifies its existence in any number of ways. I can't pin it down to one thing for all records.

Very.

I just love that feeling when, either listening to a record or being at a gig, all of a sudden you feel: "Shit, this is IT!". Like, there's nothing that could be done to make that music better, like that music is close to perfect at that time, at that place and at that circumstances. It happens to me from time to time, like when I first heard EVOL or when I went to this amazing A Silver Mt. Zion concert this April when I barely couldn't breathe coz it was so damn beautiful.

You just get those moments from time to time and then you feel you live with the music and the music lives with you.
