Classic albums that you think kinda suck and people hate you for it.

Anyone have a "classic album" that they just can't get into? Maybe one all your friends have hyped since high school, or one from before you could walk that supposedly influenced all your favorite bands?

I've got plenty.

For one, someone has yet to convince me that Superchunk's No Pocky for Kitty is anything above average.

Exile on Main Street
Everything by The Doors
Sister (yeah i said it)

the ikara cult 10.16.2011 09:49 PM

sister is an also-ran of an album

Metallica's first four records. Some of the worst records ever made, only exceeded by the shitty Metallica records that followed them.

Pretty much hate all things Clapton (sans some Cream, and that stuff he did with John Mayall + Bluesbreakers)

Always thought the Doors kinda sucked.

Pavement always bored the hell out of me. I guess some folks would consider Slanted to be a classic album.

I don't know.

Never enjoyed the Pixies all that much, either. Of course there are a few songs I enjoy (goes for everyone on this list).

Man, those are some big ones. Well except for Clapton, agree on that one 100%. Cream rules though.

The Wall, I just don't get it.

The Piper...is awesome tho

Yeah, my tastes have always been a little odd. In theory, I should just say "music sucks", being that 98% of everything I hear bores me...I guess there are specifics I look for in music. Specific aspects of music that I seldom seem to come across. And while I'm open to listening to anything and giving it a chance, if these specifics aren't there I'm done with it.

hmmm

- definitely Eric Clapton & Metallica's first 4 albums.. i find them too cheesy for my liking
- Led Zeppelin, i can't stand Robert Plant's voice
- most of Nick Cave, until he started making piano ballads
- Pixies.. they used to be my fav band when i was younger, but now mehh
- The Flaming Lips, i was never able to get into them except a few songs
- Mr. Bungle - Disco Violante, i can't bear listening to this music.

pad_023 10.17.2011 05:23 AM

I've always found Pink Floyd pretty dull and the Flaming Lips as well bar a couple of tracks. I have tried very hard to get into them, they just never clicked though.

Husker Du - Zen Arcade
Neutral Milk Hotel - any

Mortte Jousimo 10.17.2011 09:09 AM

Oasis: Whatīs the story... (Actually all Oasis albums, I just canīt stand it)
All Manic Street Preachers albums.

EVOLghost 10.17.2011 09:30 AM

Yeah I'd have to say Pavement....

evollove 10.17.2011 01:24 PM

Some good choices, some are simply wrong.

But I have to second Zen Arcade. There's, like, three good songs on there. Maybe. But it's long and ambitious, so it gets labeled a "classic." Utter bullshit.

Yeah the wall sucks.

Bad.

Darkside however, I'm growing to love again...after hating it for many years and only listening to syd era.

& I loved, LOVED the doors when I was like 16 and first got into classic rock...and then abandoned them for a long time.

Almost ten years later, I happened to put on Hello I love you....and I'm actually starting to dig the doors again.

Especially after getting into bossanova, and if you take away jim morrison's ego/central focus of the band....The backing band was fantastic.

Much better than the Stones at least...

and if you take away jim's persona and douchiness, his voice is great!

He actually pre-dated pixies loud, quiet, loud.

Just think about it that way for a little bit.

I know I'm probably going to get mass shit for this haha.

Hahahahaa

Jeremy 10.17.2011 03:02 PM

Any Smiths. I just don't get it.... nothing a handful of bands did around that same time period but better.

Tool.

I follow the Eric Clapton comments.

Boredoms.

Deerhoof.

Sun City Girls.

I know there are probably more....

Jeremy 10.17.2011 03:03 PM

Wait I do remember one. Captain Beefheart. Just never ever hit me. I'll spare from going on since the man died not long ago and he obviously has a huge number of fans here.

hevusa 10.17.2011 03:09 PM

Guns N Roses.

evollove 10.17.2011 03:24 PM

^ Who on earth hates you for thinking Gn'R sucks?

By the way, the more I think about it, I sorta hate people who think Sister kinda sucks.
