Os Mutantes

I didn't see a thread dedicated to them. I thought that was bullshit.

So here is one.

Who digs them?

I've recently became enamored with them, Ive heard a few songs in the past, but just got their debut on vinyl and it's killing me how good it is.

Better than velvet underground? Maybe.

knox 10.13.2011 12:05 PM

I like certain tracks.
This being the best:

Gulasch Noir 10.13.2011 12:08 PM

i prefer the following:

knox 10.13.2011 12:12 PM

that's a good one too
but the one i posted is more on the sad side, which i prefer and has better lyrics
or maybe it's because i know this woman turned out to be the most annoying person

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 12:19 PM

This one reminds me of velvet underground

keep poppin pimples 10.13.2011 12:23 PM

i like them generally, but i think it's just a bit too psych rock for me to enjoy fully, but overall, still very much rockin

knox 10.13.2011 12:24 PM

well
they were acid taking people in the 60's
what would you expect?

keep poppin pimples 10.13.2011 12:29 PM

well i mean i generally DISLIKE music by acid taking people from the 60s

os mutantes i LIKE so it's impressive by 60s acid people standards

so basically it's a style i don't generally like but some songs are awesome...like desculpe, baby

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 12:52 PM

The only people I'd like to hear psych rock from are random obscure bands from California in the 60s, and then Syd Barret, Brian Wilson, Beatles, and Os Mutantes.

Because those bands had specific sounds being the roots and tree stump, if you will, and the psych components were like leaves on the tree.

I hate psych jam bands like grateful dead and phish because there's so much noodling...

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 01:12 PM

oh shit knox, didn't realize you were from their hometown!

E. Noisefield 10.13.2011 01:24 PM

This is one band I've never invested much time in, I'm sorry to say. I've followed most of the big pre-pre-alternative bands like Can, Neu, Beefheart, and of course the Velvets, but I don't think I am too into this band.

I think it's probably an effect of my middle class white American upbringing... but I just don't enjoy the sound of the Spanish language when put to music. French, definitely. German, sure. Icelandic/Norwegian, most definitely. But I simply don't enjoy the sound of the vocals here. The music is quite good, but I find the vocals halting and interrupting.

Great name though.

keep poppin pimples 10.13.2011 01:30 PM

doesn't a middle class white upbringing generally give enough education to know that this isn't in spanish?

TheMadcapLaughs 10.13.2011 01:35 PM

love em'. their first 4 albums are great.

they were a band that really transcended their influences to make some an original sound

keep poppin pimples 10.13.2011 01:55 PM

if anyone uses what.cd

there's a compilation on freeleech right now with os mutantes on it, and other things.

so leech it

They are from Brazil, it's portuguese.

You can't enjoy songs like this?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEpSF...eature=related

or more traditional brazilian where the vocals should work in the context of this style...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOKlD3TVVGs

keep poppin pimples 10.13.2011 05:15 PM

whoa!!! nerds

this is supposed to be a rock'n'roll site, but i feel like i'm in geography class! mixed with spanish class! highschool sucked bros cut dat shit out

Brazil? Hmm. This probably makes me a massive racist bigot in some way, but that somehow makes them more appealing.

Sorry. That was lame.

I've always really liked their music, but like I said, the lyrics and flow of the vocals are halting and disruptive to my senses, so I never get through a full song, much less an album.

I'm down to try, though. Keep posting stuff and I'll keep listening, thoug I've got a couple of their LPs already. I haven't listened to them much, but I'm open to it.

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 06:33 PM

Then I guess you don't listen to too much punk rock or Mark E Smith, the essence of that style is that it goes against the flow of the music.

Stammer punk?

Stutter punk? haha

how does that make you a RACIST?
please explain.

DDD, it's funny to call it a town but yes.
my parents knew them back then.

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 07:02 PM

WHAT?

^^regarding your parents.

And I'm pretty ignorant to that part of the world, other than I know brazil has high crime (big whoops, so does 90% of the world now).

So why would you not consider it a town? is it just really small?

Actually, the Fall are one of my favorites. Hex Enduction Hour would rank among my top 10 albums ever, most likely.

This is a different kind of "halting". I can't explain it. I've said I like their music, I just can't get into the flow of the vocals/lyrics.

that was actually kind of a joke about knee-jerk liberalism.

Kinda like how the more arrogant environmental activists will scream at you for using toilet paper that's distributed by a company that's owned by a company that once supported a senate candidate who wore a jacket that was made by a company that owns a company that clear-cuts old growth forests. Lol.

it's the 5th ot 6th largest city in the world and 3rd largest metropolitan area, one of the most densely populated cities on the planet.

My parents went to University in the 60's and met some of the Mutantes people there.

as for the crime rate, i'd say it's pretty high but less than some cities in the US.
They just enjoy making films about it more.

except that the mutantes are very much white.

Genteel Death 10.13.2011 07:23 PM

Check ouy Gal Costa's first album when you have less time to talk shit on here. Great record.

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 09:05 PM

Will do Genteel. I've had alot less time to talk shit on here lately anyway. My band's playing too many gigs now and instead of finding a day job I decide to spend the little money I have on starting a vinyl collection haha.

I found my dad's old record player still works so I started buying vinyl.

I'm going to be very sad when the needle breaks.

DeadDiscoDildo 10.13.2011 09:06 PM

Spending less time on here has been awesome, because now that I've sucked every bit of enjoyment I can out of sonic youth's music and discussing sonic youth, I'm discovering a shit ton of incredible music & rediscovering music I loved in the past and forgot about.

Mortte Jousimo 10.14.2011 07:24 AM

I have had a great interest to them. I read a review their comeback album Haih or Amortecedor and try to order it, but vinyl was sold out. I have listened some songs from sixties from youtube and like them quite a lot! I will buy their album someday...

There is still needles available, of course it depends what kind of player you have. I have Dual and I just bought it a new needle.

You're missing the point... the point is that a knee-jerk uber-sensitive liberal might accuse me of that. Of ethnocentrism at least. I'm not saying that's actually the case.... just that some idiot might say so.

knox 10.14.2011 09:03 PM

it'd be more like culturalcentrism?
does that exist?

Gulasch Noir 10.15.2011 03:30 AM

I like the original version of ando meio desligado much more than the version sung in english (i feel a little spaced out) on Tecnicolor. Gotta love the Romance languages!
