I've had this song stuck in my head for a couple of days now. The lyrics alone are brilliant and I'm glad someone created a wiki page for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BYXX_QeRj-o |

A girl who I made a mixtape for sixteen years ago just sent me a message saying she just heard this song and it reminded her of the mixtape: http://youtu.be/pZ9KfKx8PmM

I'm surprised to hear that. There's so much going on I feel like I'm in the middle of a seizure when I listen to it. That's a good thing... I just can't think of a more clever way of putting it. |
early swag raps. punk rocking german-american bi-lingual madness
|
say what you want about him now, this album is legit. |
guess I'll have to listen to Acid Rap s'more. Don't forget guys, it took me a while to get into Danny Brown's XXX and even Kendrick... now Good Kid is one of the few albums in my iTunes with 5 stars on every track.

It's such a great album. Spiritualized is my favorite [existing, non defunct] rock band, and they've had a great career. Whenever a new album come out, I think "Oh, this is the best one yet," but as soon as I listen to Ladies and Gentlemen, that changes. It's like Pierce's Sgt. Pepper, and it just tears up everything else. The perfect fuck-you-I'm-stoned, heroin rock record. Then again, it's the only Spiritualized album that really pushes the envelope universally. The rest of the Jason Pierce discography, Spacemen 3 included, is basically the same song played over and over again, with lyrics and backing instrumentation being the only real changing factor. But that's one of the reasons why I love both bands. |
On a serious White Hills binge today. Seeing them tomorrow, really excited about it. Probably my favorite band in the country the last few years, and they have never been here before.

I just think Jason is a first rate songwriter

new Beck song! http://www.emusic.com/17dots/2013/06...ng/#more-16869

New Beck song? I haven't really been keeping up with him much, but if he's gearing up to release a new studio album, I'm probably in for a MellowGold/One Foot.../Odelay/Sea Change/The Information binge.
(Those are the albums of his that I listen to, start to finish. Nothing against the others, but they are not designed for binging.) I don't suppose he's finally recording his almost 20 year old-- and probably long forgotten by everyone but me-- "hardcore album." Not that it sounds as intriguing now as it did to my tenth grade self. |
I think my day went like this:
Oh, and the new Queens of the Stone Age. It was kind of boring. |
BlackenedWhite is pretty cool. Discovery is so much better than Random Access Memories, at least in my opinion. Black Album and Tha Carter 3 are two of my all time favs of course. Queens of the Stonge Age just sound boring to me in general.

Whoah, man. I can see how Songs in A&E might be construed this way (though it still has "Baby I'm Just a Fool," which is one of my favorite Spiritualized tracks ever), but Sweet Heart/Sweet Light was a solid album. In my opinion, anyway. At some point one needs to accept that Jason is just plain into making samey, cheesy, deceptively poppy songs that are usually a great deal more sad and nihilistic than their melodies would have you believe. A lot of his albums achieve a sort of "in on the joke" badassness that reminds me of Soft Bulletin era Lips. They sound like Elton John or Fantasia or some shit on the surface, but there are layers and layers of crazy shit underneath. Just me, maybe. I just really like that whole schtick of his. Can't explain it. Sorry you don't like it, and while I understand why, I must respectfully disagree. Btw, what about Let it Come Down? Must be his schmaltziest record ever, but I sill love it. You said Amazing Grace was the souring point, yeah? Any thoughts on LICD? |
I think I'm the only guy digging the shit out of the new daft punk. I'm not even much of a fan, but I like it a lot more than I thought I would.
|
i do like it, it's just that for me expecting them to top Discovery is like expecting MBV to top Loveless.

and loving ever fucking sonic moment. its been long enough since I listened to this record in its entirety for me to have almost forgotten just how magical it is. Again, this is my all-time favorite Sonic Youth album, it contends in my top-ten of all time for any band/album some days ;) |
