Where's a good place to get samples?

I've only a small sample library, and do not want to pay for samples (I'm broke). Where abouts do you guys get your samples from? Also things to type into soulseek would help too.

I buy children's strory records and old radio shows and audio plays on LP for cheap.
I enjoy these things on their own, but have also used them on many occasions. The Caedmon label is a great resource. Even the more "adult" recordings I have gotten on this label (like "No Exit" and Cocteau's "The Infernal Machine, to name but two) have been very reasonably priced, even for gorgeously packaged box sets with booklets included. The LPs of this nature that are not for children (we all know how well children treat LPs) are usually in great shape besides, since they generally don't get spun over and over like a music LP would.

The second one.

www.ccmixter.org

I HIGHLY reccommend this to you. The samples are free to download. It's pretty much a community that shares samples with each other for free to use.

Enjoy.

Everyneurotic 10.26.2007 10:04 PM

ZEROpumpkins 10.26.2007 11:31 PM

Thanks, Inhuman!

surely you need to find your own samples yourself, much in the same way a songwriter would find their own melodies?

alyasa 10.27.2007 05:32 AM

I tend to use records, like Sonic Youth's Sonic Nurse is a good album to sample, so is any album by Led Zeppelin. Nirvana is a font of abrasive drum sounds and other sounds as well... Am I a thief? No, I'm not... No, I'm not...

Don't get me wrong, I've generated a lot of Synth myself, but I take just small clip of something then make a melody out of it in Fruity Loops, I don't use pre made loops in my songs.

EDIT: Yeah, 1600th post!

My dad drove me crazy because he wanted me to find water sounds and crowd noises. I eventually found my way to http://www.stonewashed.net/sfx.html

There's website upon website of free sound effects.
