Thurston has two, they are a great family car, but i don't think i'm quite there yet...
plus i like the environmentally friendly aspect of having a bicycle, burn fat not oil

Mark Ibold 08.03.2010 09:39 AM

Lee recently bought a bicycle

This deserves a spot in the "best thread of this year" thread.

akprodr 08.03.2010 01:49 PM

I bought a bike here: metrobicycles.com/ way back in the 80's and they did a great job.

This place used to have a great rep too. togabikes.com/

Nothing like a good LBS to get exactly what you want.

akprodr 08.03.2010 01:50 PM

And weren't you on Home Improvement?

shabbray2.0 08.03.2010 02:22 PM

viewtiful alan redux 08.03.2010 02:33 PM

Cars are for idiots.

Georgekrz 08.03.2010 03:28 PM

I got a bike for sale for about $300, can you set me up with a Matador 21 ticket? I know this sounds like extortion, haha...

ann ashtray 08.03.2010 03:44 PM

I want an old school Schwinn Stingray.

viewtiful alan redux 08.03.2010 03:50 PM

Double dutch with kim to piss Thurston off.

No, no, no, the courtship never ends! Don't make the same mistake I made. After 7 years, I figured I didn't have to impress my wife anymore, so I finally went out and bought that bright orange AMC Gremlin I had been dreaming about. She left me the next day. ;)

viewtiful alan redux 08.03.2010 06:50 PM

It's all about Sturmey-Archer 3-speeds these days.

muttlegs 08.04.2010 06:23 AM

Can't go wrong with a chopper....

or these are convenient...

akprodr 08.04.2010 09:10 AM

That second one isn't a bicycle.

...and the Chopper is debatable.

PUMP-wise you should buy a Joe Blow pump. They're great.

Bike-wise I'd look on craigslist. You can often get more for your money than going to some store and getting a new bike. "Vintage" is also likely to mean "heavy" w/ the frame, if you're OK with that. I have a road bike with an 80s steel frame which is heavier than newer bikes but I just work with it.

Personally when I buy a new (used) bike I replace a lot of the components to fit my personal preferences. For $800 you should definitely be able to get a sweet ride. Id' recommend putting "no-flat" tires on them. I currently have Schwalbe tires and have had them on for a year and a half without ONE SINGLE FLAT TIRE!!! They are great!

SuchFriendsAreDangerous 08.04.2010 11:08 PM

I used to ride a bike, but I got rolled by the 5-oh every single fucking day and night, and so I got sick of it. plus, the bike cockblocks on getting rides home like a wingman with no game and no ride home of his own...

no you misunderstand, the bike doesn't hate on getting with chicks, it hates on getting rides home from various places you rode the bike to when offered, because generally people don't expect to drive you home from Eagle Rock or Echo Park with a bike hangin halfway out they trunk on the 110 freeway...
