Where did Sonic Nurse go???

I'm going back through the discography, and I was up to Sonic Nurse...except it's not there on Spotify.

I did a search for it, looked at the band's page, attempted to search for a song off it. Nothing.

Anyone know? (Maybe it's a regional thing?)

Severian 12.03.2018 08:46 AM

Still in my CD collection, so I’m doing OK.

_tunic_ 12.03.2018 09:07 AM

here's a YT playlist of the Sonic Nurse album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Ka...Hp3j7sIrd97VAf

enjoy!

Sheesh, for a moment there you people had me worried sick that Sonic Youth wouldn't get their $0.006 to $0.0084 per stream. Phew!

We should be supporting artists more, I know. And I'm definitely going to buy the stuff, at least eventually.

It pisses me off that everyone says 'why would you buy CDs when you have Spotify?'. For one, there's always the chance an artist will (justifiably) flip their shit and take it all off. Then there's the nice feeling you get of supporting someone, and the general niceness of owning a physical CD (or vinyl).

Not to mention that small pesky matter of QUALITY. ALL of Spotify is lossless as fuck, but their shit for Android/iPhone/iPad is just ridiculous:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotif...al_information

TWENTY-FOUR kbps? (Not to be confused with 24 bit, mind you.) Are you fucking kidding me? That's even worse than the worst bitrate used by Pono to indicate the shittiest sound quality available on streaming services:

Of course, if anybody just fucking hate their own ears (and their whole beings, really) with a vengeance, less power to 'em — go be happy like pigs in SHIT.

wrong illustration there

these are the correct ones

Nothing better to do, huh. I thought you were still jamming that goat.

Like Trump, you keep going lower. Since the SYG equivalent of impeachment —getting you banned from the board for being a fucking troll— is as knotty as, well, impeachment, it's high time to simply:

Can't really complain though if you're not paying I guess

man, but for real - I had no idea about this stuff.

My current plan is to get rid of all CDs/LPs in the new apartment where I'm moving (because of lack of storage space) and just stream Spotify via receiver and good pair of speakers.

Am I doing a mistake?

Dr. Eugene Felikson 12.05.2018 09:01 AM

^ Slavo, if you get Spotify premium, it's 320kbps

320kbps should be indiscernible from flac unless you have super-human hearing

I always recommend getting Google Play Music/Youtube Premium for $10 a month instead of Spotify though. It's 2 services for the price of one - PLUS it allows you to upload local music files and stream 'em anywhere which I find especially neat

Or there's always Tidal for 'audiophile streaming', but...

AHA ! That's the difference. I have Spotify Premium, of course.

Shame the marketing for Pono was the equivalent of an old man shouting at a cloud (basically wht you're doing) and has done fuck all. I love Neil Young but man, he handled that one terribly.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard in my life. The difference fucking LEAPS out of the speakers — even on my regular, middle-of-the-road Sony stereo.

Don't bother replying, by the way. This whole "discussion" has turned into enough of a soul-sucking black hole of stupidity already.

!@#$%! 12.05.2018 05:43 PM

320kpbs or whatever i can listen on a camel in mongolia and not have to have a caravan of more camels with a turntable and crates of vinyl following behind

most of the music i play is either at work in the office or over drinks in the kitchen or in the truck while driving somewhere

very rarely do i ever sit with good headphones just listening and doing absolutely nothing else like a concert hall except in concert halls there is always some coughing asshole and when one starts everyone else bandwagons so as not to take up the blame later (the sound of perfection)

please take my records for free if you want them

they're stored in some room

the hiss is a bug not a feature

the toblerone player failed

even cds are bulky and unwieldy

aac works for me no placebo required

my identity or sense of self do not rest on a codec or resolution thank fuck

and i don’t need to shit on anyone to prop it up

Your inability to respond with actual examples or data of any sort is telling of your insecurity regarding the matter. You'd rather take personal shots, and attempt to prevent me from responding. It wasn't my intent to rustle your Depends™, we're just talking about audio quality: chill.

You're ignoring so many variables such as the quality of the master, the genre of music, quality of recording equipment, the levels of the mix, etc. It's not a black vs. white argument - there's enough grey area where it can be perfectly argued that the difference is negligible in a majority of cases.

Some bands I insist on listening to via .flac like NIN or Mastodon, but even then - meh.

In other words...

(plus at your age, I doubt your hearing is 100% what it used to be, my friend)

PS: This thread convinced me to "fuck streaming" even more.

PPS: Filmstruck just went tits up, right? Glad I have my Blurays. What stops any of these streaming places from just one day deciding to delete certain things (hello Sonic Nurse!!) or fuck off?

I will eventually buy all this shit.

i dont get the cult of “obscurity” as virtue (what artist wants to be unknown?) but there are 30 bazillion merzbow albums on apple music so i guess that bubble has burst

Google Play Music has 96 different Merzbow records, fyi.

I'm hoping the sound quality isn't too distorted for you though :p

funny thing is the day after filmstruck closed i got an email from criterion asking me to preregister for their upcoming service (“charter member” they call it, ooh fancy, lol). this comes with lifetime discounts. i said yes of course.

sure, we’re not quite yet in paradiso-level availability of everything everywhere, but that’s where things are logically going. just like power and gas lines and running water and supermarkets. i don’t need to burn coal at home or take my bucket to the well or go to india for my own spices.

and yes, they can sometimes delete things, yes there are problems that need to be worked out, yes. just like when there’s a storm the electricity goes out sometimes. but asking to make plastic circles great again is not gonna solve those problems.

Apple Music has standardized 256 kbps. :(

But it’s only a backup for when I don’t have my CDs or I’m not sitting with a turntable. Sounds fine.

I can’t imagine caring so much about that shit that you pay more paycheck dollars for >100 kbps. Lol. And I used to record music with bands and fixate on acoustics and getting the right kick drum sound.

But since I’m not a college student in Converses anymore, and have, like, bills to pay, I honestly DGAF about whether the music I’m blasting in my car is an 8.5/10 or a 10/0.

*shug with middle fingers*

Why yes, yes you can. Browse someone's account and check it out. I guarantee there's more Merzbow on Spotify than in your personal collection.

Rob Instigator 12.06.2018 12:48 PM

I use spotify Premium to jam all the hard trap tunes I dig, as most rappers are not putting anything out on vinyl anymore.

Thank goodness for Travis Scott releasing Astroworld on double LP. sounds soo fucking goooooood

choc e-Claire 12.06.2018 02:59 PM

Jesus fucking Christ I ask a simple question and you all go off into an argument about bitrate

Skuj 12.06.2018 03:03 PM

hahaha

well, it’s like when relativity was discovered/proven, many newtonians got pissed off having invested their lives in an outdated paradigm.

understandable, but one must let go

now go enjoy all 96 merzbows!

also i posted the link to criterion channel on the moobys thread

and yes it will be available in canada

go forth! go forth and thrash! as they say

96

ps newtonian mechanics are still usable at low speeds

Skuj 12.06.2018 06:18 PM

Newton works really well for just about all speeds except for near c.

I got more than 96 Merzdiscs. :)
