Flume, Skin, out now.
This one snuck up on me. I thought it was due out in June for some reason. Been waiting for it forever. Have it now. All is well. |

I'm listening to the new Holy Fuck album, Congrats
I didn't have super high hopes for this one for some reason, even though I like the band. I figured it would kinda straddle the line between "fair" and "why bother?" like that last Hot Chip album, and most of the electronic/disco/punk groups after the fad died. But it's more droney and minimalist than I thought, and there's something really refreshing about it. I approve! |
I like my Severian all refreshed. Tell me all about the refreshing bits.
|
I've been enjoying this recently, but it may be a little too "distant" for some......

Crazy bro, cuz I like my Genteel Death all interested in what I find refreshing. Tell me about why you're talking at me. *puts on some tweed* |

Fuck, that's so beautiful. Thanks, Bytor Peltor. |
Sam Kidel - Disruptive Muzak
Very beautiful. |

Agreed. It's not to be brushed under the rug. It's closer to Fuck Buttons than Holy Ghost (see what I did there?), and it really isn't part of any post-DFA tradition. They're an entirely different breed, and I think this new album is more than just an so-so "electropunk" nostalgia trip. In fact, it doesn't make me think of those bands at all, and I feel like a dick for thinking it would be anything like Hot Chip. I'm loving it. Really am. |
^^how'd you like disruptive muzak, slavo? a lot of the people I spoke with about it hated the first side and thought the b was dull, but I thought it was so well-executed and the instrumental itself is gorgeous, really elegant stuff.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aN0JQcAsrc was going around sai kung in hk earlier this year and thought the light lps were really good for that, in particular turning. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPeTnTHc3OA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyZ8bqjDnbI (the record proper isn't as indiscriminately shoegaze-y as those tracks, they're pretty much the only song-based pieces. most of it is drifting melodic figures and drones a la fsa) in terms of more straight-up ambient stuff, can't go wrong with alex gray's (d/p/i, dreamcolour, sun araw) stuff as deep magic https://vimeo.com/21831638 bee mask obviously too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNZMtjucv5g https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCOzjTaK5d8 also compound eye (drew mcdowall + dude from messages) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwvfqoqPD2k sun araw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-wx7BxsESZM madalyn merkey https://soundcloud.com/new-images/ma...-archipelago-1 marble sky https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imD35Nj4Etc and that early blues control related project, watersports (no samples on the web) |
nice! i'm digging these tunes

did you heard new solo stuff from Arcade's Fire violinist Sarah Kneufeld? just heard this track on radio while brushing my teeth this morning. 3 min. was enough to take me somewhere far away...
https://soundcloud.com/sarahkneufeld...light-comes-in "“Where The Light Comes In” is a piece I wrote in a moment of peace. Those glorious seconds where all is quiet and open and green and the thoughts that form are snowflakes instead of lists of details and reminders. Pure deep water that never ends. I hope you enjoy. Take it with you to bed! Xo SN" |

Glad you enjoyed it! The guy who runs the label has a radio show every Monday night from 10pm-midnight PST on Holow Earth Radio. You can also stream the shows via The Edge Of The Ape Oven mixcloud page. |

i heard it the last time on radio, very interesting. |
Holy Fuck. Sounds like the Chemical Brothers went and bought a guitar.
The for carnation. yawn. |
Quote:
Sorry you feel that way. I really like the new Holy Fuck record, and don't think it sounds anything like Chemical Brothers at all. Also, Chemical Brothers did feature guitars in many tracks over the years, so.. But really, sorry you're not liking it. Re: the For Carnation- I think this is the first time I've ever heard this group mentioned here, which seems odd. But I sometimes forget they ever existed, so whatever. I recently played the '07 Touch and Go re-release of Promised Works for the first time in forever and quite in enjoyed it. If you're "yawning" because you're bored by the For Carnation, I'd recommend listening to something that doesn't bore you. If it's because you're tired, I'd recommend a nap. :) |
The condescension is strong in this one.
|
The For Carnation is as dull as it gets!

Quote:
Not my intention at all. Sorry if it sounded that way. |
Otis gritty feel it in yr blood Redding
I feel good going soul man grocery shopping. |

I had never heard of this, so I previewed several tracks and then bought the album. :) This is some weird ass dissonant shit man. At once extremely unsettling and rather beautiful. |

Very cool! What I'm finding out is Damon and his label are in Houston. He has several different acts he is involved with and plays with some regularity around town. I hope to catch him live one day. |
