What should I ask Thurston?!?!?

Also, Should I take my first pressing of Daydream Nation on vinyl with me and try to get it signed? What are the chances Thurston and Steve will just be hanging around in the bar afterwards?

They'll be doing signings, I bought a poster and got it signed by Steve Shelley and Lance Bangs in Edinburgh. Really nice dudes. The film is amazing.

Babak Ganjei invites Thurston Moore and Steven T Hanley (Deeper Into Movies) down to Hot Mess to chat about the upcoming '30 Years of Daydream Nation' screenings at Dalston's Rio Cinema.

https://www.nts.live/shows/hotmess/e...3rd-march-2019

just aired, but missed it, should be up on archives soon.

skinnypaul 03.04.2019 04:14 AM

Rio program yesterday:

Archive clips..
'London 1987' (T&C or Mean Fiddler? Included an introduction by Savage Pencil)
'Texas 1988' (SXSW http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/112688.html)
'DC 1988' (930 Club http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/cc/121188.html)

Aaron said a few words then we got a screening of 'Put Blood In The Music'. Seemed to be a different longer edit to the version originally broadcast on The South Bank Show which was cool.

Quite a long Q&A with Thurston, Steve, Lester and Aaron.

Five (or six maybe?) tracks from the Glasgow film. Sounded great!

Someone asked Aaron what the longterm plans were for the archive and he didn't seem too sure beyond putting on events like this.

Just got back from the Boston screening. If you've been keeping up, you've probably seen some of the footage. The treat here was Aaron's edit of Put Blood In The Music, the Bangs clips, and (my favorite) the McCarren Park Pool footage. Parts of it reminded me of 80s AUD camera footage of the band (think Blood On Brighton Beach, or '89 Daydream stuff from Leeds) the way the lights strike the camera...maybe it was just me.

Here's what they showed.

Hey Joni - 1988, Austin (SXSW)
Teenage Riot - 1988, DC (9:30 Club)
'Cross The Breeze - 1988, DC (9:30 Club)
Put The Blood In The Music (SY Edit)
Q+A with Steve, Byron Coley, Aaron Mullan
The Sprawl - 2007, Glasgow (Lance Bangs Footage)
Providence - 2007, Glasgow (Lance Bangs Footage)
Candle - 2007, Glasgow (Lance Bangs Footage)
The Wonder - 2008, Brooklyn (McCarren Park Pool)
Hyperstation - 2008, Brooklyn (McCarren Park Pool)
Eliminator Jr. - 1988, Austin (SXSW)

Some takeaways from the Q&A:
-Ideally, two new Nugs shows a month
-Poster sale coming eventually thru webstore
-No plans (but not ruled out) for deluxe Sister or EVOL Tour Film (which is very
long and has licensing issues)
-Potential physical issue of 04/12/89 - Moscow, Russia @ Hotel Orlenok
-Someone asked if SY would play again..."I don't think we'll play again"
- the band has a music/video archive, a t-shirt archive (maybe tee reissues?), and a
poster archive

Many thanks for this. Damn that mook who asked them whether the band would play again - knock it off already, people!

I just hope the film will become available for purchasing - if it can't be a physical release due to the new digital order, a high quality download will have to do.

Does anybody know if/when there’s going to be a dvd or BluRay of this? It’s been two years now and the film has never been anywhere near me.
