Sonic Youth Video Rant!

I very rarely have problems with anything SY do, but it seems to me that their videos are becoming progressively more dull! This started happening I believe around 'A Thousand Leaves' and the Sunday video (okay its not a bad video, but I expect a bit more of someone as brilliant as Harmony Korine)The last few videos however have been dire. I would like to see a return to their 80's/early 90's video style. I adore the Death Valley '69 video and the Goo video reel, especially Dirty Boots and Cinderella's Big Score. Its a long shot but It would be amazing if they did a video with Richard Linklater (SubUrbia kind of thing) or even did another one with Harmony Korine (but more along the lines of Gummo). Perhaps a new record label will help push things in the right direction....Rant Over!

Sorry, buth the Sunday video is a Harmony ingenius strike if you ask me.

I thought that the final cut for Jams Run Free is easily up there with what they did with Harmony Korine, Tamra Davis, or Kevin Kerslake

and not that i am obligated or anything, but the Empty Page video is a nice tour retrospective, and just so happened to feature rupert 'styles' stilinski and jennthebenn, not saying i am involved with one of them, just saying please let me stay for xmas, i don't wanna sleep in the cold

SYRFox 12.15.2006 11:35 AM

I'd like them to do videos like the Young God's Iwasi one...

Washing Machine 12.15.2006 02:45 PM

I was shocked when i dug further into Tamra Davis' work actually....Billy Madison, Britney Spear's Crossroads and some dreadful weed film called Half Baked *shudders*

And I will never forgive Kerslake for The Smashing Pumpkins' Cherub Rock video, such a great song, the possiblities were endless, ENDLESS! But No he had to make a very bland video out of destroyed film. *sigh*

i think that it would be interesting for them to do something w/ spike jonze again. he has been doing a bunch of interesting stuff since his brief involvement with SY, the video for "feel the pain" by dinosaur jr was fantastic, for example.

I didn't like Incinirate, but I thought Jams Run Free was really good

where is jennthebenn in "empty page"?

i don't know, i really loved the sunday video. mostly because macaulay culkin and thurston rocking out isn't something you see very often.

at the 0:50 mark, during the line "sing out tonight"

she is the one in the center of the screen in glasses, her face is partially obscured by her arm

also at the 1:08 mark in the front row, to the right of rupert'stlyes'stilinski, and nicole chambers

both were shot at the second (i think) chicago show in 2002,

it was weird cause the video debuted the night i first met jenn after SY played Baltimore

I can't stand looking at Mackauly kullkin's butthole lips in the sunday video...I'm pretty positive I will never watch that video again in this lifetime.

That was the whole idea of the video.
