Alright, we're just a few days or hours away from the closing of GTMO and the pardoning of Manning and Snowden! I'm pumped! Wait, whaddayamean it's not gonna happen...?

Chelsea Manning could see her sentence commuted, though. From Demand Progress:

Quote:

AMAZING NEWS: NBC is reporting that Chelsea Manning has been added to President Obama's short list for commutation.

Chelsea is currently serving a 37-year term in an all-male military prison. She has spent more than a year in solitary confinement—treatment considered "torture" by the United Nations—and she has already attempted suicide at least twice.

Chelsea's life in prison will only get worse under a Trump administration. It's up to President Obama to commute her sentence before he leaves office January 20.

Chelsea Manning's revelations exposed the truth about war crimes committed by the U.S. military in Iraq and Afghanistan. She uncovered video of an Apache helicopter firing on unarmed civilians. No one was harmed as a result of her whistle-blowing, and she proved that the American people were being lied to by their government.

As a result, Chelsea has been punished with solitary confinement for "crimes" like possession of an expired tube of toothpaste and a copy of the book I Am Malala. She's been denied access to her lawyers and doctors. She has even been given solitary confinement as punishment for suicide attempts.

Demand Progress helped collect over 100,000 signatures for the White House petition calling for Chelsea's sentence to be commuted. And now we know our voices are being heard.

"After I discovered who Trump is and the way that he conducted himself, I was never going to go to the inauguration. I never planned, I never contemplated even going near any of those activities or those events. I don't like the way he has, you know, misled people, the way he has lied; I don't like the way he has disparaged folks; I don't like the way he mimicked and mocked a disabled man; I don't like the way he talked about women and grabbing their private parts. So there's nothing about him that I would want to be involved with. And certainly the inauguration is a way of welcoming in someone to the presidency and honoring them and respecting them. I don't honor him, I don't respect him, and I don't want to be involved with him."—Rep. Maxine Waters,

wow, she really drank the kool aid.

meanwhile, the outgoing administration leaves us this turd:
When it comes to the forthcoming GMO pineapple, that is once again the case: the FDA has said that Del Monte’s proposed creation is “safe” based solely on information submitted by the company itself. There is a distinct lack of information on long-term potential health effects, however.
The new GMO pineapple has been given a rubber stump, and it could be headed to store shelves. Here’s what you need to know about it.

Assange MUST NOT allow himself to be extradited until Manning is free and in a safe harbor, out of the country. And I think he's stupid to do this.

ilduclo 01.18.2017 05:29 PM

I seriously could give a fuck about Assange, he's a tool of the Republicans now. There are so many other things he could have done to expose real corruption and crime. What a turd

Agree. Completely. Ever seen that move "The Promised Land?" Probably not, because it painted an unflattering but accurate picture of the power of the natural gas and fracking industry, so it was blackballed by Hollywood and went to DVD after about a month. Anyway, point is, in that film the natural gas industry asserts itself so strongly in one small town that they control every possible variable, including hiring a henchman to pretend to be the "local environmentalist presence" to fiercely protest their practices, and even gain the town's support, only to be (deliberately and publicly) discredited, leading the town to toss aside any and all reservations about fracking on their farmland because the main opposing protestor was driven out of town by the shame of his (planned) public humiliation.

Anyhoo.. fuck Assange. At this point I'm open to the theory that he was working for the Repukes all along.

Also, funny you should say "turd," because one Ted Nugent (yes, that Ted Nugent, the political science expert, sociologist and historian) had been making posts on social media deriding everyone from the educated and wealthy to the uneducated and impoverished for having "TURD" (Trump Unacceptance and Resistance Disorder) and being "TURDS" for not wanting the country to be great again.

Really. He's doing that. And thousands of people are chiming in to voice their approval.

So... death threats? Anyone?

guest 01.18.2017 09:40 PM

assange is a truly disgusting human being but it's not as if he hasn't always been, he's a pure anarchist with no real end goal or agenda to anything he does other than incite infighting and draw up divisions, the motivations for which are unclear and almost certainly ethically void.

but at the same time you have to feel for him, I mean he's from fucking queensland which is a crocodile infested humid shithole where people run over chicken carcasses for fun because it makes a funny sound. although townsville has a bunnings.

another fine contribution from the beautiful sunburnt land.

I warned you 2 years ago the nazis were making moves but you scoffed at me. You have nothing but your insecurity, ignorance and name calling. Good luck!

Oh, the Oligarchs want to thank the women who marched yesterday for providing us with millions in revenue. The women paid for their transportation and gas and lodging and food, and also talked incessantly on their cell phones, which provides a nice data dump for us to understand who is funding and organizing the women. And revenues. You see, we always win.

Y'all get back to your cell phones and video games. We don't need to chain you up. You do that to yourself.

The Dark Knight Rises reference I made was to the movie, not the graphic novel. Which would annoy real comics fans, I guess...

tesla I understand that people like you are fed up with the prevailing system because to be honest I can't see why most people wouldn't be, however look at that right there^^: was this man really the one you pushed your country over the precipice for? any sort of critical engagement with reality here would show you that he is merely a concentration of everything he and you are railing against...

either that or you're just a deadshit contrarian faux-anarchist which I'm currently leaning towards.
