What turntable should I buy?

I'm planning to buy a turntable for home listening purposes as well as for occasional live playing.

But as I'm a complete noob into stuff like that, is there any particular model that I should check out? Not very expensive, yet solid quality.

I would assume that it's the speakers that makes the turntable. Unless you need, for some reason, a new turntable I'd buy a used one (and probably a new needle) and a good set of speakers (with a preamp).

Mine was $10 at a flea market (junk store) and it sounds pretty good.

Good needles/ good speakers are more important than the deck itself, although the very cheapest turntables will always be shit.

Thanks mates...I've got pretty solid quality speakers and preamp so I'll guess I'll do nothing wrong by picking up some medium-prized deck.

my suggestion is to try to find find some used reloop or technics dj deck, their cheap and of very good quality.

now im thinking if you're gonna be spinning you'll need a direct drive tt--- belt driven just won't work

_slavo_ 01.10.2007 11:27 AM

no spinning, no schratching, none of this DJ bullshit. just Philip Jeck-like experimental textured stuff

btw, I live just across the hill to Nevada - I live in Central Europe.

what i like about those lpgear products i posted in the previous post is they are carefully chosen @ every price point & their improved versions do make a difference. maybe see if they sell similar around where you live. internet commerce is a bitch...
