Vampire Weekend

What are they like?,any good?,anyone seen them?....

SYRFox 02.12.2008 04:46 PM

My uncle loves them. I know you do care.

gmku 02.12.2008 04:55 PM

I saw them on Letterman and thought they sounded like an updated Police.

GrungeMonkey 02.12.2008 05:30 PM

i saw a video on tv and thought it sounded like just more generic indie NME crap. I don't really know what the big deal with them is.

batreleaser 02.13.2008 12:26 AM

theyre an indie band that gets played on mtv, meaning fake indie, meaning they suck.

and dont give me those "you hate all music thats popular" because thats bullshit. i love tons of mainstream hip hop, especially lil wayne, and i think timbaland is brilliant and a sound whiz, and i like what hes dine with justin timberlake a ton and i like beyonces singles. but, indie rock that is made to be popular defeats the purpose of indie rock and that makes it shitty.

Norma J 02.13.2008 12:59 AM

^You defining a genre as 'indie rock' defeats the purpose.

Norma J 02.13.2008 03:57 AM

Which was my point. My comment was directed towards his ideology rather than any form of music.

indie can be interpreted in ten million different ways.

Indie meant something much different in the late 80s.

gmku 02.13.2008 09:06 AM

Yeah, well, I was there!

batreleaser 02.13.2008 09:50 AM

oh idealogy, eh? did you pull the dictionary out for that one? anyways, indie rock unforunatly does stand for a genre of music as opposed to when it used to just mean 'iddependent', bands that are described as indie now rip of the smiths or gang of 4, have those annoying chirpy guitars, and arent independent, like bloc party and stuff like that. sad times we live in.

See them? Not until 1990. But I'd started listening to them in the late 80s.

PAULYBEE2656 02.13.2008 09:54 AM

yeah, they exist but not in an exciting way for me at least. not shite but not on my to buy list.

It appears you worry about things that are irrelevant.

Thanks for the links, they're kinda of ok,i guess,i've not heard of any of the African pop they say thier influenced by,(?).Think i'm resisiting the urge to rush out and buy tho..

pbradley 02.15.2008 10:30 AM

They sound like 60's pop to me. Then again a lot of indie pop sounds like 60's pop to me.

still sounds really arrogant/purist.

atari 2600 03.09.2008 01:17 PM

They are no great shakes, but also not bad; All in all, I liked their performance on SNL.

Alex's Trip 03.09.2008 01:36 PM

Each song individually is good. But as a whole they are lacking something. They are too samey, and I don't feel any intimacy or emotion in their music.

I reserve them for driving music/with friends music.

gmku 03.09.2008 02:42 PM

whenever I hear about a new indie band and wonder how good/important they might be, I automatically ask myself, OK, so how do they sound compared to to Battles, Radiohead, or Boris?. 'Nuff said?

StevOK 03.09.2008 04:09 PM

Another one of those bands that gets hyped. I saw them on SNL. I wasn't very impressed, but I wasn't very annoyed either. Most new bands would get a rating of 4/10 from me, VW gets about a 5/10.

gmku 03.09.2008 04:11 PM

They sound like the Police, only for the 2000s.

Oh, I said that already.

Talking Heads too, but yeah, more like the Kindercore version or so of The Police than anything. I like 'em, but just like Alex's Trip opined, I'm not crazy 'bout 'em or anything.

That sounds about right to me; well done, sir.

gmku 03.09.2008 05:09 PM

Of course, 30 years from now some web site like Pitchfork will be telling us that instead of listening to Radiohead and Battles we should have been paying attention to bands like Vampire fucking Weekend. You can't win.

Savage Clone 03.09.2008 05:10 PM

This band is boring.
The superior Vampire band is Vampire Hands, if it's Vampire-based music group nomenclature you're after.

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 03.09.2008 08:19 PM

They sound like Paul Simon more than anything. Twas an enjoyable show, but I don't like the hype they're getting. Doesn't really deserve much more than a one off....

batreleaser 03.09.2008 10:39 PM

theyre a lousy hype band, im actually pretty surprised people have been giving them the time of day.

✌➬ 05.06.2008 11:58 PM

Overrated hyped band. SUch trite music. They bore me. I can't believe people actually like this band.

pbradley 05.07.2008 12:01 AM

A girl in my jazz class name dropped them as though they were saving popular music with their "afro-pop" style.

✌➬ 05.07.2008 12:02 AM

Ugh, they are not doing anything. To me they sound like a one hit wonder.

maybe i am arrogant and a purist, still doesnt make vampire weekend anything but a shit fuckin band.

Everyneurotic 05.07.2008 12:07 AM

i saw their video and the song was quite unmemorable, reminded me of that other hype band who had the video with the exercise walker things.

they kinda also reminded me of hot chip who are another big nothingness band.

chocolate_ladyland 05.13.2013 03:51 PM

there is just something about this band that I find absolutely repulsive.

TheMadcapLaughs 05.15.2013 01:32 PM

they got some catchy tunes but yeah, i think what is perceived as their fan base is really hindrance for me. plus they arent so great that i can get past it. but there is so much better music to check out out there.

arnovice 06.07.2013 09:30 AM

Journalists create a buzz about certain bands. This one is very neat and they go into raptures about how good looking they are because they dress well with expensive clothes. But their music is bland next to their influences

Rob Instigator 06.07.2013 09:51 AM

I hate music made by trust fund kids with too much time on their hands.

evollove 06.07.2013 12:11 PM

How do bands like this get famous? Who do they know? Who got paid off? How much? I'm really curious.

evollove 06.07.2013 12:16 PM

Ha. Seriously, if someone(s) with $, power and influence didn't want you to hear about this band, you probably wouldn't have.
