Vic Chesnutt w/ A Silver Mount Zion

I just heard about this, don't know Vic at all, but they are playing in my town this november, tickets went onsale just today. Don't see the tour announced anywhere yet at least not on Vic's site, so i thought i spread the news here.
I've always wanted to see Silver Mount Zion / GYBE! live, this will be a great opportunity, in the small hall of the Effenaar!

They made an album together, see:

here's an Amazon review:

too much noise, September 24, 2007

As a fan of Vic's music I've bought this album without listening one day before the official release date in Boise while I was on holidays in the U.S.A and Canada. When I played it in my car I felt ashamed to my wife for the incredible noise on it.

I don't know why he put so much aggresive guitar noise in it; anyway it's not my cup of tea and I will trade it in.
Goodbye Vic

That's enough reason for me to buy it! :p

According to Effenaar's site the line-up will consist of at least:
Vic Chesnutt
Efrim Menuck (Godspeed/A Silver Mt. Zion)
Jessica Moss (A Silver Mt. Zion)
Thierry Amar (Godspeed/A Silver Mt. Zion)
Guy Picciotto (Fugazi)

Sounds like an excellent pairing with ASMZ.

Also, Picciotto! Awesome line-up.

ASMZ are gods. Seeing them live was a slight touch of Heaven.

I saw ASMZ a few months ago and, well, I found they were boring.

I was a huge GYBE! fan when Lift Yr Skinny Fists was out, but I haven'listened to them in ages, neither to ASMZ. I don't even know their latest albums.
But I bought the Vic album today and it sounds really good. And I'm very much looking forward to seeing these songs played live. in three weeks already

Dude, get both Yanqui U.X.O. (GY!BE), and Horses in the Sky (ASMZ). They're each their best albums, SOOOO fucking amazing.

I'm a fucking Constellation freak. I am waiting on a smallish order right now:
Do Make Say Think - Winter Hymn Country Hymn Secret Hymn (last one I need, GOING TO SEE THEM IN A COUPLE WEEKS!!!)

Black Ox Orkestar - Ver Tanzt?
Sackville - The Pinciples of Science 10"

Sorry... I just get excited.

the band I'm in is opening for Do Make Say Think tomorrow, Saturday...
not really much of a Constellation fan though Polmo Polpo and Hanged Up are ok, A Silver Mt. Zion are ok, though i saw them once in Hamilton, ON and they were good and opted to skip out seeing them again which i don't regret because i didn't hear anything good about that show. this New vic chesnutt sounds interesting though.

I have every GYBE! release, and the first two of ASMZ. I listened to them so much that I just could't stand to listen to it anymore for years, and I didn't care about any later ASMZ releases anymore.
I got an overdose, felt like I was listening to the same old song no matter which album i was listening to.
But this Vic album really is very good. It's ASMZ with a good vocalist ;-) That's one thing I never liked so much on ASMZ, whoever's singing hasn't got the best voice.

I'm probably off the mark on this, but doesn't Efrim sing in A Silver Mt. Zion?

mental ray 10.11.2007 04:50 PM

Yes, he does (along with the other members at times)
Thierry Amar, Jessica Moss and Efrim Menuck are going to tour with Vic and...Guy Picciotto,in Europe in November, I don't know if it was/is the case with his present tour in the U.S ?
