Thurston's big muff modded by Analogman

Found this on the gearpage messageboard...

http://www.thegearpage.net/board/sho...php?p=13713327

Looks like analogman did some work on one of Thurston's main big muffs (a tall font green Sovtek) made it true bypass but had to include a relay to maintain the original fatty bypass switch.

I saw a few recent vids on youtube of Thurston using this and some unknown pedal (between the Rat and Big Muff) from a Chicago festival in November. It looks like custom analogman pedal, a King of Tone or a Bi-chorus form the number of knobs/switches, the vids are not good enough quality for me to exactly determine which it is... not sure if he would actually use a chorus??? it appears the pedal he's holding in the pic on the gearpage with his brother Gene and Analog Mike is indeed that bi-chorus though...

Nice. Yeah, I can't imagine thurston with chorus either.

I had the chance to swipe an Analogman Bi-Comp from a gig once. I didn't, but I would be lying if I didn't say it crossed my mind. Cool shit.

If you look closely at that pic you can see that they must have been playing that device that they used in Diamond Sea.

I guess Mike has a version of that one too.

okay, I'll bite, what Diamond Sea device do you refer to?

Ludwig Phase II Guitar Synthesizer

http://m.matrixsynth.com/2009/09/lud...nthesizer.html

Supposedly less than 50 exist today, they are super rare and I've seen them go for well over $2,000 on ePay...

hirsute_biped 12.11.2012 12:11 PM

Awesome, that should be on the sonic gear page. I remember seeing it during the Washing Machine era, and there was some discussion of it on this board or the Echo Canyon board, but i couldn't remember anymore what it was. Someone should reissue that thing...

...reminds me of this half broken beast that was on ebay a while ago:

Its on the gearpage, circa 1995

There are folks @ diyguitargadgets.com who've cloned the ludwig synth...

I'm not saying you are wrong, but I couldn't find it on the gear page. John Paul Jones used the Maestro Phaser on his Rhodes piano for No Quarter to great effect.

Thanks for pointing out that which is relevant and awesome, rather than blindly lashing out like a rabid banshee on bath salts.

click "Thurston". scroll down to Effects, then 1995.

i suppose i could have put more care into the design of the amps/effects pages...

hirsute_biped 12.12.2012 10:34 AM

Of course it's there. Always wanted to know more about that one, thanks guys.

I had two Maestro Phase shifters (PS-1A & PS-1B) at seperate times, the best sounding phaser i ever used but it was to awkward and clumsy to use as a foot controlled unit without the rare and hard to find foot pedal... so i sold them. i primarily use a mxr phase 90 when i want that swirly leslie effect (don't use it much in my chain nowadays) and i recently got a mutron phaseshifter off craigslist but the mutron lacks unity gain so it doesn't get used much.

hirsute_biped 12.13.2012 03:14 PM

Never played with a phaser but I made up a quasi-Maggot Brain arpeggio sequence to solo over that is just begging for some outer space journeying phaser, so now I want one.

Supposedly 2,000 were made.

They're not like bengal tigers or mountain gorillas.

I have this phantasy that I'll find one at a flea market.

Not in the Ebay era. Maybe before.
