Rob Zombie's Halloween

Any other diehard Halloween fans out there? Remakes are pretty lame, but Rob claims it's not really a remake. I think this movie actually has the potential to be pretty awesome. I wasn't a HUGE fan of Rob Zombie's first 2 movies, but they were at least "ok." Rob is a horror fanatic and I think he might have some interesting things to add that were not really addressed in the first movie. It should be interesting to see in more detail why Michael wigs out and kills his sister and why he wants to kill everyone else in his family that he can get his hands on after he breaks out of the mental institution (Laurie, Jamie, etc.). Rob's wife plays Michael's mom who is a stripper (surprise surprise, so out of character for you, Rob) so i'm guessing she is a shitty slut-bag of a mom which helps contribute to him going over the deep end.

The kid that plays Michael as a little kid looks evil as fuck! Plus, Dr. Loomis is played by Malcolm McDowell (ie. Alex from Clockwork)....great casting, Rob!!! Also, Danielle Harris who plays his niece Jamie in 4 and 5 will be one of Laurie's friends that get sliced.....apparantly titties will be exposed, ya little jerks. Michael is played by the dude that played Sabretooth in X-Men, for whatever that's worth.

The soundtrack looks pretty good with Halloween II by The Misfits (fucking right), Don't Fear the Reaper, 1969, and yes, of course, Mr. Sandman.

Basically, the beginning should be the most interesting to check out.

SynthethicalY 08.16.2007 01:17 AM

It looks interesting. I might check it out.

krastian 08.16.2007 01:17 AM

Oh I'll be there.....I'll be there.

SynthethicalY 08.16.2007 01:21 AM

When does it come out?

krastian 08.16.2007 01:21 AM

August 31st

Cantankerous 08.16.2007 01:26 AM

i liked house of 1000 corpses and devils rejects so i might see it.

SynthethicalY 08.16.2007 01:27 AM

Devil's Reject was pretty cool. It was a pretty good thriller.

krastian 08.16.2007 01:32 AM

It seems most people like Devils Rejects better than House of 1000 Corpses, but I think Houses was better.....I've only seen them once each.

Yeah, White Zombie were fucking awesome back in the day.....I still have my black and white White Zombie poster that I bought at Camelot Music in like 6th grade.

atsonicpark 08.16.2007 02:14 AM

devil's rejects is shit, fucking TERRIBLE, a pure trainwreck, one of the worst films i've ever seen. i actually reviewed it for imdb, if you care enough to read the review my name on there is "polysicsarebest".. i hated hated HATED that film.

house was entertaining but it was just a really long music video. truely a film that was only interesting because of the crazy set pieces and crazy editing and because it was short. i mean, honestly, it could've been a decent troma film (and i love troma, but objectively speaking, there films aren't actually "good" usually).

at least rob zombie's 2 films are better than the 2 films i've seen by eli roth...

but.. this pointless remake looks terrible. terrible and pointless. i'll still see it, out of curiosity, but for fuck's sake.. any horror movie purist hates horror movie remakes (and really has there EVER been a good horror movie remake? Dawn of the Dead remake was also one of the worst films I've ever seen; the Hills Have Eyes remake was merely AVERAGE but doesn't compare to the original and... oh shit, the Night of the Living Dead remake was good; I answered my own question).. so, it's funny that Rob Zombie, someone who considers themself some kind of horror movie auteur, is remaking it. silly as fuck. he's an idiot.

but as usual, I don't want to pass judgement before I see it. but the trailers make it look absolutely horrid.

krastian 08.16.2007 02:26 AM

I wouldn't call it completely pointless......the young Michael is only shown for a few seconds in the first film and this might be an interesting take at the Michael Myers character that hasn't yet been touched on. I think there also will be some footage of him in the mental institute before he breaks out which might be interesting as well. Either way it'll be better than the last two Halloween's with LL and Busta for fucks sake.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 08.16.2007 02:28 AM

i'm looking forward to this film

I agree, I don't think most horror characters have been given a deep look into their personalities, other that they are killers.

atsonicpark 08.16.2007 02:43 AM

If you want to see an amazing film that focuses on the killer and his psyche, check out Maniac (1980). One of my all time favorites.

It bothers me, the whole idea of a remake, and this remake looks especially bad (though the worst remake ever is the shot-for-shot remake of Psycho by idiot Gus Van Sant; VERY pointless). And I have no hope for it to be good. Nothing about it looks or sounds good! But I'll still see it opening night, because I love horror movies. Sigh.

I just find it funny that, as popular as Zombie is, his films haven't been very popular (critically, Devil's Rejects was acclaimed, but didn't it do very poorly in the box office? And House did shitty, critically and otherwise), and it seems like this remake (which will NO DOUBT make a shitload of money, cuz, hey, everyone knows Halloween and will watch it regardless) is his final, dying grasp as a director. So, it should be interesting to see if he goes all out. And it's not like he's going to kill or ruin the Halloween series, since it's been shit since.. well, since the first film (though the second one is entertaining enough). At least Busta Rhymes isn't in this.

atsonicpark 08.16.2007 04:45 AM

No, devil's rejects WAS very critically acclaimed, and it didn't really make any money in the box office (though it probably did on dvd). This is a fact. I didn't know that he was approached to do this, though; I figured it was some kind of dream project of his or something.

Judging from the footage I've seen, it does look very very bad. My friend saw a trailer for it and Halloween is his all time favorite horror film and he also said it looked like shit, and the general feeling is that it's going to be awful. I have no hope for it. So, when I go and see it, I may be surprised.. always a good thing.

Tokolosh 08.16.2007 06:39 AM

Even though there were at least 33 mistakes in the original (I've counted more), I can't imagine the remake being better than Carpenter's masterpiece.

I'll watch it when it comes out on DVD.

demonrail666 08.16.2007 07:37 AM

The orig. was great basically because Carpenter is a great filmmaker. The basic story/idea was average at best but he transformed it through his own talent. RZ is an average filmmaker working with an average idea, so I don't see much point. Being a fan of great horror films doesn't necessarily mean you can make a great horror film.

The whole remake thing is definitely a bore. How many that've been made recently have stood up to the originals?

nature scene 08.16.2007 07:47 AM

love the original movie, my all time favorite horror movie.

Not generally a huge fan of Rob Zombie movies, but I'm looking forward to this.

One of the things, however, that made Halloween so great was that it was spooky, not gory. This art has all but been lost in modern horror films. I'm expecting some more gore in this one, which may make it lose some points in my book.

LifeDistortion 08.16.2007 10:56 AM

Do we really need another Micheal Myers film? Say what you want about Eli Roth, and believe me I'm far from a big fan of his, but at least he's doing something original. And they already made a remake of "Halloween", they called it "Scream" white faced dude running around with a big knife cutting up teen girls, remember? "Scream" was one big homage to "Halloween". This doesn't get me existed because not only are we beating a dead horse, the horse has been skinned, cooked, and digested. I'd rather have something new then revisiting the same stupid guy doing the same stupid thing.

atsonicpark 08.16.2007 04:15 PM

I know you weren't defending Eli Roth or anything, but I want to now how exactly he's doing something different. Cabin Fever seemed like a shitty version of Evil Dead with Dead Alive's humor. Hostel was just trying to cash in on the Saw "torture porn" craze with a bit of Troma-ish humor. I never saw Hostel 2, but I'm sure it was more of the same. His best thing he's ever done was the Thanksgiving trailer!

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 08.16.2007 06:14 PM

I love to think hard about things and critically analyze them... especially music, horror movies, and bad TV, but in this case, I'm simply going to go to the movie theater and not worry about whether or not it does justice to the original. I'm going to have a good time watching a movie... something I'm positive Rob Zombie directing Halloween can do for me.
