Haha it's just some shot on video thing. It's actually clever and funny at times but it's just so shitty.

I appreciated how quiet Replacement Killers was, though it's probably just because Chow Yun Fat can't speak English! But it was just such a crappy and Americanized take on Hong Kong action movies.. what was the point.

oh adam i dont know if this shit is your thing but when you get a chance check out VERMILLION PLEASURE NIGHT on netflix instant watch.

it's tv. it's crap. but i think it's fucking brilliant and i can't explain why.

atsonicpark 10.28.2008 11:46 PM

VERMILLION PLEASURE NIGHT?

I'll look it up now, haha. The title is great at least!

I just queued a movie called GEEK MAGGOT BINGO.

atsonicpark 10.28.2008 11:47 PM

Even in the wild world of Japanese late-night TV, this show stands out for the bizarre vignettes that include everything from clay creatures talking about body hair to a playhouse full of desperately violent housewives. Profane, provocative and often disturbing, director Yoshimasa Ishibashi's variety show -- which mixes live action, animation and special effects -- delivers a sensual assault that yields a unique perspective on modern culture.

...

Also, it's been compared to Liquid Television on one of the reviews!

I'll watch this later, thanks!!

touch me in the morning - 10/10

Quite possibly the funniest film I've ever seen. Pure genius. So direct and honest and .. touching! Brilliant.

breaking news - 7/10

Worth seeing just for the 8-minute single-take action scene at the beginning, but the whole film is great. If you're into Hong Kong action films I mean.

microwave massacre - 7/10

Fucking HILARIOUS. Only 76 minutes... never get boring, never gets old, with some silly gore.

atsonicpark 10.29.2008 04:29 AM

Hey symbol man I'm watching vermillion pleasure night vol 1 right now. This is brilliant! Thankssss.

viewtiful_alan 10.29.2008 06:52 AM

Starsky and Hutch last night, couldn't finish it
Its a fun movie, cant argue that.. but funny? I was having a really hard time finding where I was supposed to be cracking up. It was just a mindless entertainer.
6/10

atsonicpark 10.29.2008 07:09 AM

If a film was so bad you couldn't finish it, how can it rate a 6/10?...

If a film was so bad I couldn't finish it, and there have been a select few like welcome to mooseport or hog wild, I'd give them a low rating or no rating (depending on how much I saw).

noisereductions 10.29.2008 07:23 AM

Adam, what year is MICROWAVE MASSACRE from?

atsonicpark 10.29.2008 07:56 AM

I think 81.

atsonicpark 10.29.2008 07:59 AM

sorry, 83./

noisereductions 10.29.2008 08:05 AM

I need to check that. Reminds me, I need to see DEATH BED too.

atsonicpark 10.29.2008 10:02 AM

I didnt really type that right at all, I got tired and turned it off for the night.
I gave what I had seen thus far a six of ten.

A true classic of crap film. The guy at blockbuster gave me such a wierd look when I rented it. XD

mangajunky 10.29.2008 04:47 PM

So I haven't seen this yet - but there's an old Fulci flick called the Beyond that features a character named "Joe The Plumber" and he's responsible for unleashing zombie hell. One of the other main characters is John McCabe.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082307/

viewtiful_alan 10.29.2008 04:49 PM

Anyone here seen the corpse grinders?

fugazifan 10.29.2008 06:47 PM

Uh, yeah. The Beyond (AKA The Seven Doors Of Death) is probably my favorite Fulci film!

DUDE, Street Trash is like "the other" Toxic Avenger. See that shit.

MellySingsDoom 10.29.2008 08:27 PM

mangajunky - The Beyond is defintely worth a look, as is also "The House By The Cemetery". I would avoid "Nightmare Concert" though - a very poor film all round, that.

davenotdead 10.29.2008 10:59 PM

meh. 4/10

Kegmama 10.29.2008 11:18 PM

No Wave & Sonic Youth!

Check it if/when you have the time:

samuel 10.29.2008 11:51 PM

I just watched Blow with my friends in my dorm.
I didn't know Penelope Cruz was in it, and when I saw her, it made my night.

atsonicpark 10.30.2008 04:25 AM

The Beyond is amazing. My 2nd favorite Fulci flick. I have a copy that's called seven doors of death on dvd, but it's uncut... it's some budget title another company besides Anchor Bay cut but rest assured it's completely uncut.. it's worth tracking down the Anchor Bay version though because of all the cool special features.

Street Trash is amazing, it's not my favorite melt movie (that honor would go to Body Melt... though Slime City is awesome as well), but it's fucking hilarious, the dude who made it is a preacher now or some shit and he hates that film.

atsonicpark 10.30.2008 04:34 AM

little otik - 7/10

Bizarre and entertaining film from the guy who made Faust and Alice. If you like those films you'll enjoy this one though it does seem a bit too long and drawn out at times.

dracula: pages from a virgin's diary - 8/10

This is only the 2nd Guy Maddin film I've seen, but if his other films are this great then I'll go ahead and say he's probably the best North American director around currently. This film is fucking genius. It's a silent film (from 2003) that's also a ballet about Dracula. Way more interesting than it sounds, trust me. Fast-paced with beautiful music and eye-popping visuals... a truely original and awesome film.

night at the golden eagle - 7/10

Adam Rifkin is a very curious director... he's directed straight-up dark and crazy films like The Dark Backward and this, goofy and hilarious trash like Psycho Cop 2 and The Invisible Maniac, not to mention a family film or two, Detroit Rock City (?!?!), and The Chase.. you know, that movie where Kristy Swanson has sex with Charlie Sheen while they're driving. None of his films are anything alike whatsoever... anyway, this is a dark and depressing but pretty awesome film..

That's the version of 7 DOORS I have also. The spine is like a purple with red letters? That company is cool. And cheap. There's another cheapo company too... damn I forget. Slim cases. They sell a cheap version of SLEEPAWAY CAMP that is the uncut version in disguise.

tw2113 10.30.2008 08:35 AM

Factory Girl

I didn't have any improved impression of Sienna Miller afterwards either

noisereductions 10.30.2008 08:38 AM

Adam, random: have you seen SOUTHLAND TALES?

atsonicpark 10.30.2008 09:04 AM

noooooo.

It looks bad, is it bad? I hated donnie darko, that dude's other movie.

noisereductions 10.30.2008 09:30 AM

Oh. You might not like it then. I loved DONNIE DARKO, which is why I saw SOUTHLAND TALES. It's crazy. It's not at all like Darko. It's just really weird. But I liked it. Can't really describe it.

atsonicpark 10.30.2008 10:34 AM

Intriguing. I'll watch-movies.net it sometime.

noisereductions 10.30.2008 10:38 AM

OK. The tip of the iceburg of the plot: The Rock is a powerful politician who wakes up in the desert with amnesia and a screenplay that he wrote about the end of the world, and everything that happens from that point on is scripted in that screenplay.

noisereductions 10.31.2008 07:41 AM

Adam, another random: I assume you've seen Uzimaki? My goodness did I love that one. It really blew me away.

atsonicpark 10.31.2008 10:41 AM

"nice body"!

And yeah noisereductions uzumaki is great. I actually read the manga as well. It's so ridiculous.

atsonicpark 10.31.2008 02:15 PM

the burning - 8/10

Was shocked at how much I liked this! I knew I'd like it, but wow.. great atmosphere, doesn't stray too far from other horror clichés but it definitely delivers in every area it needs to deliver in.

femme fatale - 7/10

Another one I was surprised with the quality of. I'm a big DePalma fan but I'm not going to pretend like he's done anything amazing in forever... however, this film really shocked me, it harkened back to classics like Body Double, Blow Out, Obsession, etc... a bit too long, but the cinematography was amazing, there wasn't a lot of dialogue (which is awesome)... the only thing was, it was a bit too long and the twists were a bit unneccessary but that's to be expected with DePalma..

kids - 5/10

When this came out in 1995, I'm sure it was shocking and insane and mindblowing, but there have been so many films since then (and actually before then) that explored teenage degeneration that this was actually pretty boring to me. I'm not really a fan of Korine (who co-wrote this) though I'm going to check out other Larry Clark films, because this was well-made and pretty funny at times but all in all didn't do much for me..

Rob Instigator 10.31.2008 02:22 PM

yeah, I just could not bring myself to give a flying fuck about the problems of dipshits in NYC

atsonicpark 10.31.2008 02:26 PM

Honestly, I though the film was ... gross. I know that was intentional, to display all this stuff in a non-glamarous way.. but ew. From the first frame of watching a 17 year and a 12 year old sticking each other's tongues down each other's throats, I was just like, ew.
