INTERESTING....maybe?

I doubt this even gets made, but since everyone here must know all things sonic, I thought i would post it. its from a black lips interview. I guess they are going to make a movie of some sort.

Pitchfork: What's the general gist of the movie?

Jared: It's summed up as like the New York version of 24 Hour Party People. We play like this fake band in the 80s, kind of in the whole Sonic Youth scene.

I would probably watch it, and it would probably be shit. but maybe it would be funny. whoooo knooooows??? I wonder which "sonic youth scene" they speak of. it seems like they've been in quite a few. sort of.

i'd watch that shit.

Who are the Black Lips anyway. Everyday I come across a new Black (something) band, Black Kids, Black Lips, Black Keys. I'm not sure hwo much I care anymore...

If anything is to be labelled 'The Sonic Youth scene' No Wave is certainly not it. They may have been the most enduring band from that period but they were not (at that time) the most imprtant or best of the scene.

Truthfully, it doesn't sound that interesting to me.

i like the black lips. nothing spectacular, but they rock, in a grimey, too much booze and speed, garage sorta way. and if theres one thing the contemporary music scene lacks, its straight ahead, unpretentious garage-esque rock n roll that actually rocks. 'los valientes del mundo' is sweet. 'good bad not evil' sucks

But most recognizable from it.

can you lent me your black lips album(s)? because the ones i have heard sound like pretentious hipsters trying to play smooth, harmony landen poppy 60's rock that doesn't rock. actually, it sounds like hipsters trying to rip off love.

batreleaser 06.22.2008 04:37 PM

check out 'los valientes del mundo', its a live record recorded in tijuana (though some fans claim the "live" part is bullshit). its a really fun record.
