Any audiophiles here?

I can only imagine what, say Sister, would sound like on a Hi-Fi system. Forget about Sister. Think Rather Ripped.

Now I remember why I always thought it was okay the lurkers didn't join in.

I don't think I understand what the original poster means.

As Crypto would say, it's a trap. I think.

The assumption seems to be that we SY fans don't listen to SY on anything but shit, that we're not audiophiles.

Or it's an obscure slam against SY, meaning SY isn't deserving of audiophile playback.

Or he really does wonder what it would be like, having only a cheap plastic record player with a knitting needle for a stylus himself.

It was not a trap. I really would like to hear a Sonic Youth record on a hi-fi system. I was just hoping someone with a hi-fi would write about his/her listening experiences.

If I had 10 grand, would I use it to buy a car and rifle or turntable and cartridge?

Oh yes, enjoying the retirement years immersed in a sea of great sounding music...I'm down.

█████████ 01.18.2008 10:02 AM

or maybe we will get tired of it...

that's a possibility, is it? will there be a point in life where music means tedium?

I sure hope not...music is enjoyable on so many levels that I'd find it really hard to live without it.
But only time will tell, maybe I'll turn into an old grumpy fella shouting the neighbours' youngsters to "turn off that thing, devil's spawn!".

Rob Instigator 01.18.2008 10:08 AM

I have not heard any sonic youth on an audiophile system. sister woudl be very interesting as it was recorded strictly analog on vacuum tube equiptment. it would probabkly come closest to the sound of a live band in your living room.

Yes indeed. My friend is a pioneer of the high-end OTL (output transfomerless) tube audio world.

His stuff is pretty incredible. You most definitely know one or two people who work at his shop as well.
His personal stereo is by far the best I have ever heard in my life.
