tape/et al and LP simultaneous playing : )

Recently i 've become aware of what has been known: there is an amazing potential that exists when playing a steady recording (tape, anything else) and an LP at the same time!

This web space can allow this type of experiment, but, i think this would be clearly be the most amazing in a room together!
Schizophrenia LP and steady recording example : )

this demo is not perfect as far as sound quality, but, you can pause one side to allow it to catch up to or to drift from the other. with actual equipment i think this can be done too, although it could be harder. In two different places in a room, longer delays would sound better. : ) This is really for all music, but, it so deeply suits sonic youth/all related art projects!!

Anyone who has Sonic Youth LP recordings digitally transferred from a turntable or LP that is at least slightly wobbly can also match up the two recordings very accurately in some type of software. :)

In my mind it feels like in the studio, who knows how many decades ago, sometimes artists/producing artists might have played a completed LP along with tapes, and found that it created a holographic/multidimensional feeling.

i'm not an expert on this so i am excited to hear what everyone else thinks and feels! : ) Each time i have tried with any song or album, it is very much an experience of total rediscovery!

another example : )
it is a non-sonic youth example in case this topic is better for that forum. i do hope it will be exciting somewhere and somehow by May or June there will be some type of collection/list, etc of the best tape and LP experiences.

Just another diamond day

Maybe I don't get it...
but if you'd do that that with tape player or tape machine and a vinyl player, wouldn't there be some kind of problems with synchronicity, since tape speed always varies a bit?
Can't listen to any of the examples, my internet connection is fucked.

I believe this is the idea......for the synchronicity to be just a wee bit off causing an echo effect without the echo. Well, not reverberating echo, just repeating echo

I tried upping a video and it keeps telling me it's not available......

Thought that would be an interesting piece of lo-fi natural "phase-piece" music - the reality of it is that is sounds like two copies of said tune playing in and out of sync - occasionally interesting, but in the main it just sounds like e.g. "Schizophrenia" being put through some sort of ADT/tape-phase/chorusing-like effect - not really 100% effective to these ears, to be honest.

I've heard attempts at multiple records etc playing done live - I recall a Billy Jenkins performance where he synced up 4 specially cut 12-inch records to play in "natural-phase" sync, with speakers being placed in various parts of the room - that performance was actually pretty impressive, from what I recall.

Still, in spite of my caveats, it's certainly an interesting thread, all told.

Cool,

but something slightly (possibly) cooler coming in next few days.

Stay tuned.

EVOL tour dvd?

evollove 02.18.2014 02:02 PM

No. Another SY fan manipulating SY into something new.

I've already said too much.

I remember reading about it somewhere......maybe here??

What I'm referring to is an exhibit where The Beatles, 'White Album' is featured on 100 turntables all being played at the same time and how different the album should sound when played on 100 turntables at the same time.

Believe this is in New York.

this is a very cool track, it was automagically selected by soundcloud after I listened to that 100X Beatles piece:

all sounds come from crickets, which are sped up and slowed down
