derek's essentials #18: coil - horse rotorvator

coil - horse rotorvator
1986

Beautifully disgusting. Disgustingly beautiful. 'Ostia (The Death of Pasolini)' may very well be the best song to ever be recorded. John Balance really hit a creative peak here and the eerie undertones that are strewn throughout the album are things of nightmares. Essential.

Yes. Didn't know you liked Coil!

I used to have all their stuff before my hard drive fried! Coil are fantastic though.

seriously. i've been thinking about it a lot lately and this has to be the worst loss of the decade. i feel coil only got better and better with time with "the ape of naples" being their apex. really quite tragic.

anyway, yeah, this album is pretty much perfect and a classic in every respect. "beautifully disgusting" and "disgustingly beautiful" are great ways to put it.

Ostia is mind blowing, as is this whole album and Coil in general. Englands Hidden reverse Indeed

I ask my lovers
do you know where the desert roses bloom and grow

In my top 5 bands ever. I remember porky saying something about Coil always having an unsettling frightening vibe subtley strewn underneath, I like that.
