i've been supprised by how many lists (online and in magazines and stuff) have left off Animal Collective. I've seen "top 50" lists which dont mention Centepede Hz at all. I guess it might be cool not to like them anymore but i think it's a really good album with some amazing tunes. There was a load of buzz about the album when it came out, but people seem to have forgoten it.

(or did i just dream it?)

I agree. Their 2004-2010 output was always in the top five of everything. But I don't even think Potchfork or Magnet included them this year. I think it's a rally good album too, though its probably not in my top five of the year. It's definitely in or near the top ten, for sure.

Also, Deerfhoof released a great album this year, and it's been noticeably absent from a lot of the lists you'd imagine it would fare well on.

amongst the albums that i would say impressed me most, in no order:

moon wiring club - today bread, tomorrow dreams
actress - rip
lukid - lonely at the top
pye corner audio - sleep games
dean Blunt and inga Copeland - black is beautiful
laurel halo - quarantine
cooly g - playin me (anything released on hyperdub this year really)
dan habarnam - from the known
yeasayer - fragrant world
chairlift - something
burial - truant
jam city - classical curves
asc & sam kdc - decayed society

probably forgetting a lot - it really was a fantastic year in terms of electronic music albums. any rinse mix cd released this year should be mentioned as well - they were all great. the latest one, mixed by t.williams, is probably the best though.

i thought it was decent. not a bad album, but not a one i felt the urge to listen to more than a few times either. this said, it may be better this way - after the whole mpp boom it's good to see them releasing this kind of records as well.

with all the great hip hop i forgot that aesop rock released one of his better albums "skelethon"

batreleaser 01.08.2013 10:18 PM

kind of surprised to see Earth and Om so high on the list. Both are bands I have loved in the past but neither of those albums impressed me.

Blood_Promise 01.13.2013 04:33 AM

It's either The Seer or John Frusciante's - PBX Funicular Intaglio Zone.

batreleaser 01.13.2013 02:56 PM

I really got obsessed with the Actress album "RIP"
