Your Own Portable Clarinette: A Free Collection of Free Music by Clarinette

"Free to all, a 2 hour and 37 minute sampling of Clarinette through the years. In no particular order the collection includes tracks from early albums like Haze on vinyl on Ecstatic Peace/Father Yod from 2002 to The Now Of Then on vinyl on Feeding Tube from 2017 and including something from every album and EP as well as a handful of tracks never officially released, plus one new thing that I haven't even found a home for or even finished!

Still no clarinets but lots of guitars, pianos, noise, drones and bounding sound."

This Friday, Stand with Bandcamp to Protect Voting Rights for All

Quote:

In just seven weeks, the United States will hold its midterm elections—a vitally important moment that will determine whether the country stays on its current path, or renews its commitment to democracy.

As a community built around the idea of empowering and amplifying individual voices, Bandcamp is doing two things to bolster the democratic process in this historically consequential election.

Voter Registration

First, we’re encouraging U.S. visitors to Bandcamp to register to vote, and helping them do that on our site. The unfortunate fact is that most people don’t vote in midterm elections: only 17% of young people voted in the 2014 midterms, and 40% of eligible voters overall. Turnout for the 2016 presidential election was not much better, with the predictable result being a government that reflects the values and priorities of the very few. We can change this, but only if more of us vote. You can register or find your polling place here.

A Fundraiser to Protect Voting Rights

More immediately, we want to help protect the right to vote itself, which is increasingly under attack by elected officials who seek to stay in power by undemocratically and illegally disenfranchising minorities, young people, and the poor. According to a recent study, 20 states have passed new, restrictive voting laws since 2010, which include arbitrary cutoff dates for early voters, unnecessary burdens on the voter registration process, and a tightening of voter ID requirements. Now more than ever, we need to make sure that every person who wants to exercise their right to vote can do so easily, without hassle, anxiety, or obstruction.

And so this Friday (from midnight to midnight Pacific Time), for any purchase you make on Bandcamp, we will donate 100% of our share of the proceeds towards the Voting Rights Project, a program led by the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law to advance and protect the right to vote and ensure that right is afforded equally to all.

To participate as a fan, simply purchase music through Bandcamp on Friday and we’ll donate our share of the sale to the Voting Rights Project. To participate as an artist or label, send some or all of your share of Friday’s sales directly to the Voting Rights Project here, and let us know your plan in the comments below so that we can help spread the word.

And of course, if you are a U.S. citizen, register to vote today and get out to the polls on November 6th—it’s not hyperbole to say that our future depends on it.

Agree, agree. (Dear lord, are they even using the same tunings?)

But I notice whenever I hear a band heavily influenced by SY, they seem to miss something ineffable yet essential, which just makes me appreciate SY all the more.

https://moepages.bandcamp.com/album/tolerancia-picante

Anne Waldman digs it:

MoE/Rasmussen are currently on tour in Japan. Joakim got sick so they are having guest drummers, and the last show of the tour will probably be an explosion: Guro Moe, The Skaset, Mette Rasmussen, Masataka Fujikake, and Keiji Haino performing as a quintet.

Holy crap! No physical release, though, right? At least I can't find one at https://www.invada.co.uk/collections/all-products. Anyway, this is the shit! And Gillian Anderson looks better than she did when the original X-Files were on! Not that it matters! But still! 50 is the new 25!

I think a physical release will happen at some point. I know some releases which were planned for the spring, had to be pushed a little bit due to pressing plants being busy re-pressing stuff for Record Store Day. Maybe it was the case with this release as well?

And she was featured on Bandcamp Daily a week ago:
A Guide to the Discography of Diamanda Galás, Avant-Garde Oracle

Love the first paragraph:

Quote:

When I spoke with avant-garde legend Diamanda Galás in 2017, she had some understandably harsh words for critics who fail to understand both the deep and intense emotional veins running through her discography as well as the actual musical history behind her work. "People who do not know anything about music—notably, most music critics—really should equip themselves with the changes of the original song and realize that every single one of the chord changes I use are connected to the original chord changes," she said, speaking about misinterpretations of her performance of Thelonious Monk's "'Round Midnight" on All The Way. "It is not a bunch of keys falling down the stairs, and it is not someone who uses the song to her own ends only to destroy it and desecrate it and dismember it."

Also this bit from the Litanies Of Satan Bandcamp page:

Quote:

A Note to the Listener by Diamanda Galás, 2019

Intravenal Sound Operations would like to suggest to the listener of these works, that The Litanies of Satan and Wild Women With Steakknives are not, nor have ever been, political pieces. It is suggested that, contrary to resorting to self-serving interpretation, the listener just listen and add nothing of his/her/whomsoever's own.

Thank you.

(Incidentally, I prefer the 1989 reissue cover art, but that's just how I roll.)

hipster_bebop_junkie 06.08.2019 01:45 AM

"La Bufa" by MoE, songs about feminicide in Mexico, and the american dream/nightmare. Recorded at Testa Estudio in León, Guanajuato: Said to be an almost exact replica of Electrical Audio (Steve Albini has even worked there a few times lately), and the resident engineer apparently follows Albini's methods closely, so of course MoE's powerful sound is presented in a very crisp yet slamming manner... Also, accordingly, some bass parts had to be re-recorded by the band when they were back in Norway. This is a huge favorite on my record collection.

Big Ups: Wilco's Jeff Tweedy Picks His Bandcamp Favorites

"No matter how much he has on his plate, Wilco's prolific frontman Jeff Tweedy still sets aside part of each Friday to discover new music. 'If you'd told me when I was 12 or 13 that every Friday I could listen to basically every new record that came out, I'd basically lose my mind,' Tweedy says with a laugh, over a phone call before a show in Italy in support of his band's tremendous new album, Ode to Joy. 'Sometimes I form opinions about stuff that isn't for me, like modern country, that I'm just curious about. It's insane sounding, but I try to listen to everything.'"

I imagine O'Rourke would definitely be there and that Bill Orcutt could be, but I didn't know he was a big Grouper fan. NOICE.

Things have changed (heh):

The physical editions include two bonus tracks: the demos for "The Sandman" and "The Moth", sung by Harvey instead of Anderson and James. A remix of "The Sandman" by the play's sound designer, Tom Gibbons, has been added as a third bonus in virtual format. You can find all three tunes in FLAC here, and, uh, probably elsewhere.
