1/31 Chris Corsano, Jade Monkey, Adelaide, Australia
2/02 Chris Corsano, Mojos Bar, North Fremantle, Australia

Get down there, ye gentlemen (and lady) of the Oz, and prepare to see a fucking amazing drummer.

ALIEN ANAL 01.26.2008 11:35 AM

ooo i will be in perth at this time
what is it exactly sonicl? a full band or what?

sonicl 01.26.2008 01:26 PM

When I saw him billed as just "Chris Corsano" it was just him and his drum kit. But whatever you do, don't think that sounds boring - it's anything but. The guy is a percussion genius.

I would link you to some youtube footage, but if you already know what to expect, your mind won't be quite so blown.

thanks sonicl, the jade money is about 2 steps from my house...... i shall be there

hat and beard 01.26.2008 10:33 PM

Has anybody heard ^? Oh muh Lord, it is everything I ever wanted out of a solo percussion record and more.

p.s. Some of the tracks are on his myspice page.

ALIEN ANAL 01.26.2008 11:44 PM

If that didn't convince you it's probably best to just stay home.

ALIEN ANAL must have no heart.

ALIEN ANAL 01.27.2008 09:34 PM

i must be heartless and deaf because all i could hear was some dude hitting the drums randomly being noisy.

just from seeing cosano's technique if he took away the cymbals etc that he was placing on the heads, it would make a killer rock solo, but that is not what this type of music is about. his sticking technique is very very good. this is not just some dude hitting some drums

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 03:55 AM

but it doesnt even sound good
it just sounds like some dude bashing drums
im sorry, i did look into multiple videos of this guy hoping to like him, i even told my brother who is a drummer to come watch as i searched for videos of this amazing drummer...but it just bores me to shit

like i get it..i get the whole hit things and hit a bell..then a tish..then quick smash of the kit but it just doesnt sound good to my ears, reminds me of when my nephew gets on the drums

with that said, i am still considering catching his show just incase the you tube videos arent showing off what he is really like.

Onani Nic 01.28.2008 06:52 AM

I really would have liked to have seen him play but managed to be in the wrong city for each show.

scott v 01.28.2008 09:48 AM

Chris is a phenominal drummer, period plus a super nice guy of whom i've heard to pleasure in seeing perform and talk to several times over the years... he is considered one of the best young talents of improv/jazz drummers around today to say the least and thats not just coming from fans, or critics its also his collegues and collaborators such as Joe Mcphee, Evan Parker, Paul Flaherty, Thurston Moore, Bjork, Ben Chasney, Nels Cline... etc etc. To my ears his

Believe me this ain't some idiot bashing on drums... because the musicians mentioned above don't just play with anyone.

ALIEN ANAL 01.28.2008 09:57 AM

yeh
like i said, im willing to give this guy a go still
its just that i havnt been impressed by the videos on you tube
just seems like simple noise being made on the drums

-im curious, is he here with bjork? because she is in town the same time as he is.

scott v 01.28.2008 11:21 AM

please don't make an opinion based off of youtube videos... most you tube videos are usually of such quality that it doesn't do anyone or anything much justice.

pokkeherrie 01.28.2008 11:29 AM

He's very likely there with Bjork, yes, playing solo shows on the nights off. He's really amazing, but I tend to agree with hat and beard that it seems like you might as well save yourself the 600km or so that you're away from Fremantle... unless you'll be in Perth anyway that weekend... your loss though.

Halfway on topic, I saw this Dream/Aktion Unit video from Den Haag a few days ago, just in case it wasn't posted before:
