greenlight 05.20.2009 06:20 AM

oh sweet Paris. I miss you.

Julien 05.20.2009 07:03 AM

Palais des congrès ... What the fuck is that, a joke ?

I mean there are so many great venues in Paris ... why this one ?

Please, the parisians, give me hope ... tell me it wont happen in the main amphitheater ... huge ugly venue, seated spectators only ( !!! ) , no fucking way to smoke or anything ... the CBGB of the begining is far away, far far away !

There must be.
Berlin 21
Paris 25.
I don´t think they gonna just relax in between thoose dates.
Very interesting to see where they will go, I can imagine amsterdam and bryssel will get some. Since they played both austria, munich, dusseldorf, luxmbourg it´s seems most likely to me

sonic sphere 05.20.2009 09:50 AM

i can see a 3-day mini tour of ireland would fit in nicely between those dates!

Whale Oil Beef Hooked! A sixth member? I guess it's time to visit the board more often.

"And on giotár ... Lee O'Naldo!"

greenlight 05.20.2009 04:14 PM

hahaha. funny.

yeah, I wish they play in Ireland.

e_s_d 06.04.2009 11:35 AM

Yeah, tickets from 39.60 € to 50.60 €

F*ck that.

It's a huge, seated, crappy overpriced-tickets venue, specialized in gigs for old people performed by ageing/has-been/reformed bands/artists.

Sonic Youth can only be performing there a) on a misunderstanding or b) for other deeply sordid reasons it's probably best not to think about.

Clif Richard and the Shadows are playing there the week after.

Gang Of One 06.05.2009 05:59 AM

I too don't understand the choice of the venue.

I saw Ennio Morricone there, it was ok, but Sonic Youth ?!

Anyway i'll be there but is so wished it had been the Olympia or even best the Elysée Montmartre, where i first saw them in 1995.

I'm not sure that Palais des Congres is worse than Zenith by the way, soundwise.

Tanzende Schauspieler 06.05.2009 06:26 AM

i reeeeeeeeeeeealy can 't wait for them to come to japan !

yay !1

Alan ciccone 06.07.2009 06:38 PM

when will tickets go on sale?
I'm on the site now but they're still not available.

HECKLER SPRAY 06.08.2009 03:09 AM

Palais des Congrès ? Oh dear, that sucks... Well, I'll buy a ticket anyway, I really want to see the band. But I'm so disappointed by this choice.

greedrex 06.08.2009 03:31 AM

^^i'll meet you there then!

auto-aim 06.08.2009 05:30 AM

faaar too expensive - really wanted to take a trip to this one... I can't afford practically £40 a ticket on top of travel

Gang Of One 06.08.2009 10:10 AM

I bought my ticket. 50€ ! I'd never thought i paid this much for a Sonic Youth concert. I'm at the same time sad and anyway excited to see them for like the 15th time.

greedrex 06.08.2009 10:12 AM

my wife is offering this to me. Nice.

Bertrand 06.08.2009 01:10 PM

Booked really late, good erm, seats, had gone.
Hopefully there won't be any pillar to block the view, so it won't be that bad.
My credit card coughed blood.

I guess the advantage of being seated is that you can put your beer at your feet if you wanna clap along in time with the music. Although I don't think they sell beer at the PdC...

Actually the one and only time I went there (my mum had brought us tickets to see Lou Reed) there were hostesses passing through the aisles selling ice cream cones. Good times ahead.

Alan ciccone 06.09.2009 11:10 AM

I just made a huge mistake when booking my tickets. I entered my Irish address as what I thought was the section for the billing address but ticked the box for postage in France. the order was confirmed but I haven't paid for postage to Ireland. My French isn't great so I'm finding it hard to find what to do on on the site. does anyone have the patience to help me?

gwfb 06.09.2009 11:26 AM

may i help you?

Alan ciccone 06.09.2009 12:02 PM

I just need to get the address changed on the order but there seems to be no way to change anything. on the contact us tab there is this piece of writing.

I don't know if this says they can't reply to me or what. hopefully there is some way of changing the order.

Bertrand 06.09.2009 12:57 PM

It says that "our servers have skimmed numerous emails lately. We have modified our parameters to authorize more messages to go through. If you're surprised not to have received any answer from us, thanks for contacting us again. We apologize for any unanswered mail you might have sent."

Let us know which site you ordered the ticket from if you're still in the dark - though I won't be up to help you until next week.

"Armchair " ??!!! What the fuck ? I won't put my ass on any chair in a SY concert !!! Go fuck yourself !!!

HECKLER SPRAY 06.11.2009 07:50 PM

I hope they will play (a decent version of) Tuff Gnarl.

e_s_d 07.23.2009 03:41 AM

Apparently there was a SY interview in this month's Rock'n'Folk, a decent-in-the-70's-turned-shit-in-the-00's french music magazine. One of the questions, apparently, went along the lines of, 'why are you playing your Paris gig at the Palais des Congrès?'.

Anyone read this interview? I'm curious to know what their answer is...

reginald 07.23.2009 08:07 AM

Maybe the price and the seats are preparing everyone for a 3 hour performance by the band !!!

The acoustics look like they'll be great in there.

Well you'd hope so, given the price of the tickets, but I don't expect it will be anywhere near as loud as your average SY concert. In France, a lot of places like these limit sound levels to around 100 dB.

I guess if they were going to do a performance similar to those on the Good Bye 20th Century dates, seats would be OK, acceptable... So c'mon SY, why the Palais des Congrès? What have you got in mind?

Hopefully something which befits the venue, otherwise the question is more like 'what were you thinking?...'

silverfreepress (sdasher) 07.23.2009 11:18 AM

where is the French spirit of revolution? just because there are seats must you sit? I've seen people sit on the floor-why not stand in your seats?

Man, my girlfriend bought me this magazine, the interview is pointless, and the journalist doesn't ask this question.
Even worse, there's a article just after the interview, where the "journalist" bullshits about the band ("they're old", "they 've never made a good song", "they've never made anything new", "it's just shitty open tuning", "Thurston is a bad guitarist", "La jeunesse sonique ? Sonique ta mère oui..." [I don't want to translate this shit], bla bla bla).
Don't buy/steal it.

OK, I get the picture... Hardly surprising given the shitty nature of the magazine in the first place. Typical music journalism, slamming a band instead of trying to write some constructive criticism one way or the other. I guess now that SY are 'mainstream', it's time to slam them in order to look cool.

Still intrigued by the choice of venue. Sorry to go on about to go on about it, but I just feel I can't let it go. And I couldn't bring myself to order tickets for the gig, mainly because of the venue.

"It's just shitty open tuning", haha that's really funny. Classic ignorance, worthy of 'when I was 5 my paintings were just as good as Picasso's'...

And "Sonique ta mère"... Well that's just beyond lazy.

Yeah, I'll be there. Gotta come all the way from Helsinki. My girlfriend is gonna be on exchange in Paris and I was going to visit her anyway at the time so it's perfect for my schedule. It's my first SY gig and first time in Paris and all so I'm pretty psyched. The venue does seem crappy, though. I don't want to sit down and roll my thumbs on a Sonic Youth gig!
