best movie discussion site?

where would i go to read about a wide range of movies? i want everything from vintage ethnographic films to no budget drive in classics, straight to video conspiracy docs... and most websites are completely useless for finding info on movies outside of the same old shit. syg was my go-to movie finding out about site for a long time but is too slow now to serve that purpose effectively(tho i will be watching guru the mad monk soon)

i don't know of a single place. i often check this site:

http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21s...ilms_table.php

to catch up with the century and see if i've missed something. i've found a lot of good stuff there, from werckmeister harmonies to 4 months 3 weeks 2 days.

however, i haven't i found a mention of "the great beauty" nor the name of paolo sorrentino in that site. hence, i must call bullshit.

also, i've hated some of the movies i've seen featured in that "best" list. but still, a point of reference, however distorted it can be at times.

this site is pretty cool but there's no discussion and the idea of "most acclaimed films" is the exact opposite of what i'm personally looking for. i want forgotten films that are old, no highbrow or college student* friendly stuff for me. 4 months, 3 weeks, 2 days is in line with my tastes

*stuff from anthropology or theology class is fine, but nothing deliberately artsy

not true-- that particular page has no discussion but other pages will have them, e.g.

http://www.theyshootpictures.com/gf1000.htm

i've seen more but the site has changed recently so i can't find my way the same as before

eta: comments on individual director pages too

funny you should mention because that movie is ranked at #42 in that site:

http://www.theyshootpictures.com/21s..._films50-1.htm

and it is how i found about it. same as death or mr lazarescu.

i don't go by those categories and i dislike numerical classifications/grades/etc, but i use that site as a survey so i can scan it and see what might interest me from it. looking at the 250-200 page i see i'm curious about a korean movie, an argentinian one, and various others i wouldn't have otherwise heard about.

i really don't know much about grindhouse/cult/b-movies/etc but demonrail and melly seem big on that. as for conspiracies, tesla is probably the source to consult.

anyway best wishes in your search.

yeah. the thing is i think the movie seems arty because it's foreign, but the strength of it to me is sheer lack of art, pure reality... commie style realism for the post commie era. it really captures the vibe of actually being in romania, which is something i think most serious film makers could never pull off, i look for things like that, movies whose intended audience are similar to the characters whether realistic or sensationalised, which is something i think both the highbrow and commercial film makers can't pull of. i think if a movie like that was made in usa/uk the serious film people would shit all over it

don't get me wrong, this site is worth perusal, just not inclusive of the sort of small audience and/or trashy things i most want to find

atsonicpark would have def. had some perfect answers for this r.i.p.

i know what you mean about adam. he'd watch a million trashy movies and post endless lists of them.

i don't think 4 months etc seems "arty" at all and maybe you're underestimating the people who picked it for the list or making unfair assumptions about their tastes/motivations or what arty means. but anyway, it's just tools. use as needed.

sorry i can't contribute on the other end of things. i always go back to john waters but not much beyond that.

you might like some kuchar bros though. if you get a chance to find. george + mike. both of them nuts and pretty great and made movies for nothing.

Here's a couple of decent sites for your horror/trash/exploitation etc discussions:

http://www.cult-labs.com/forums/

http://www.cultmovieforums.com/forum/ (This site is run by Marc Morris - current Nucleus Films head, and former Redemption Films associate)
