I actually haven't heard them either. They have tons of CDs at a record store here, too. But I don't really want to buy something I haven't heard. They aren't on iTunes as far as I know.

U2 is the only one worth hearing. The rest are complete crap.

Glice 06.09.2006 10:32 AM

You know, I can't think of a single band I want to hear? I mean, there's loads of records I should own, but bands I want to hear? I can't think of a one.

I do need to get more medieval music though. Scores, preferably.

And if anyone has a hurdy-gurdy they'd like to give me, I'd be most grateful.

Hip Priest 06.09.2006 10:47 AM

No-one specific, but I'm pretty miffed because this year's Merseyside Sea Shanty festival won't be on. I like the chance once a year to hear some good stuff and get some cd's. Drat.

Shantygruppe Breitling, from Rostock in Germany (topical World Cup connection - eh?) performing at the Birkenhead Mersey Ferry Terminal, 2004:

Oh, hang on. Is that a bit sad? :o

Oh, I've never heard Merzbow. They're quite popular round these parts, yes?

Glice 06.09.2006 10:59 AM

The Merzbow are quite a popular beat combo, yes. Their rhythm section is quite refreshingly spritely, and their singer has a delightfully soft, yet strong, timbre.

Savage Clone 06.09.2006 11:03 AM

Merzbow does a ripping sea chanty.

porkmarras 06.09.2006 11:07 AM

I'd like to hear some music by Magma.I've never heard any of their stuff but i'm curious.

Savage Clone 06.09.2006 11:12 AM

Magma are a band I like very much.
When I am in the mood.
Some of their stuff is super cheesy, and if you of a certain disposition, all of it is.
VERY overblown drummer-led progressive darkness with operatic vocals sung in Kobaian (a language invented by leader Christian Vander because his native French was not harsh or guttural enough for his grand vision).
I enjoy it about once a year, but on that occasion nothing else will do.

you're welcome.

Phlegmscope 06.09.2006 11:23 AM

I've only heard Mekanik destruktiw kommandöh and I yet have to hear it again to make up my mind whether to like it or not. It's highly theatrical and dramatic progressive psychedelia, with choirs and stuff, maybe a bit too overkill for my taste. How does that compare to their other stuff?

Savage Clone 06.09.2006 11:31 AM

That is the best stuff I have heard of them.
"Inedits" is good too.
Stay away from the one with the Giger cover!!!

Phlegmscope 06.09.2006 11:55 AM

oh, the topic.

Things that have raised my interest:

Haemoth
Anaal Nathrakh
Paik
Wreck small speakers on expensive stereos (or is it "Childs guide to wreck...")
Jennifer Gentle

There haven't been that much new discoveries during the last few months.

Savage Clone 06.09.2006 11:59 AM

The main guy in Paik is one of the coolest looking rock dudes I have seen in recent years.

val-holla-ing 06.09.2006 01:26 PM

i would like to hear bardo pond, but i'm a bit wary of giving them a shot.

DemonBox 06.09.2006 01:33 PM

I been thinking of checking out Polvo.
