Sublime Frequencies European Tour 2009

Anyone went to this? How was it?

They will be here this week-end and I am looking forward to see Group Doueh...

It was pretty much the greatest gig I've ever been too. Maybe a few gigs were as good (SY on the DDN tour, solo Willam Parker), but never better. Both groups. It was just sheer joy! People were just staggering around hugging people they didn't know that well and shouting "BEST GIG EVEEEERR!!!" enthusiastically. Not to raise your expectations or anything...

Make sure you buy everything you can from the merch store. I picked up the two LPs for £15 each (they're amazing, especially the Souleyman), and I'm so glad I did. Turns out they're like £30+ each from stores. Also you get a fucking awesome poster if you buy two things. I was very sad to give mine to a friend (we went because it was his birthday).

I went to the London show, and it was simply fantastic. Both acts were ace - Group Doueh had the edge for me, but Omar Souleyman's set was really vibrant and energetic, and the crowd really got into it. I picked up the ace new Group Doueh LP as well - well worth investing in.

Cool, this is the type of replies I was hoping for to motivate me even more! I just watched a youtube video of Omar Souleyman, and it looks indeed promising...

I'm also looking forward to the merch store!

lucky bastards.

I caught this yesterday in Rotterdam. Highly recommended by all means.

Musically, Group Doueh were most up my alley, but Omar Souleyman got me dancing the most.

The Earl Of Slander 06.09.2009 04:37 AM

Yeah, Group Doueh had the slight edge for me too. The two friends that I came with both preferred Souleyman though. However, they're much less into their skronk, so I guess that explains it. Also, I think a big part of Doueh staying with me more was simply them being on last, which meant that when I staggered out all euphoric it was them who were ringing in my ears...

I liked Group Doueh, but I loved Omar Souleyman.

Group Doueh were amazing.
Omar Souleyman was amazing!

I loved the cheesy way the keyboard rhythm came in during every Omar Souleyman song.

looks like fun!

You don't have fun.

Im just getting into Omar Souleyman, he's just brilliant.

I love the the way he performs onstage (from utube videos admittedly), he just stands there with this authority and confidence, occasionally gesturing to the crowd and letting the fantastic musicians do their bit, he's the Mark E Smith of the middle east. I cant believe its taken me this long to get this.

I don't know why Group Inerane never gets any lip service. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv3BDgxuXh8

He is the link between my music and my politics; He works in the style of music thats from the Kurdish area of Syria, Iraq and Turkey... if we are going to have a peaceful world, we need people like Omar Suleyman
