I saw Calvin Johnson today

I was downtown, doing the usual looking around at a local record store, and I see this older looking guy, and realize it is Calvin Johnson. Nobody else seemed to notice him.

He's playing at a local club later tonight, so that's why he's in Ottawa.

How old does he look? What was he wearing? Most important, what music was he buying, and was it on LP or CD? Details, details!

i saw him live about two years ago, i was sick, but i still think it weas one of the worst shows that i have ever been to. i much more enjoyed the opening act which was old time relijon's singer doing free improve...
the CJ show just seemed so boring, it was him with a classical guitar singing boring songs, and having a boring stage presence. maybe if i knew beat happening then (i still dont know them but i know the history and premise of the band) i would have enjoyed it more. but just him by himself was so godawful, boring...
and i was sick.
but its still pretty cool to see him buying records, i still have much respect for the man...

I saw Calvin Johnson solo last year. It was a really small show, he played acoustic and sang into the room (no mic). He played a Kylie Minogue cover, i really enjoyed it.

man the show he did with julie doiron in mtl was really good, i loved this song he was improvizing with the drummer Wooly leaves from the julie doiron band,
his accapella of When hearts turn blue was amazing,,,, a lot of people were laughing at him , ,, guess they did not get it....anyways very good show,, go n see him if you ever have a chance

Saw him last night at an old masonic lodge turned noise venue. It was pretty tight, some ppl were sitting on the ground indian style, most were standing at the front of the stage. He did the acoustic folky thing you guys mentioned, with no mics etc. His voice really fuckin resonates and he was a hilarious frontman. Most of the ppl got it too, and were humming along, and ppl laughed but with him, not at him.

He told some really funny stories too haha

it was a good vibe

That said I still like beat happening better...

Indian Summer!!!!

Next time make sure to thank him for ruining "indie music" for at least a decade via the influence of his horrible elevation of willful amateurism.

It's not like you spotted Nudge Squidfish looking at his UFO map or Mike Rep buying a tape machine in a thrift store, if you get what I mean. Probably you don't.

Nope
