sabbath bloody sabbath

Holy Diver, no question. Heaven and Hell is a good 'Sabbath' album but Holy Diver is probably one of the ten greatest Metal albums ever. I love Dio to bits but I don't think his vocals ever really fitted with Iommi. Ozzie will never be the singer Dio was but in the context of Sabbath, he was perfect - as was RJD in his own band. Besides Ozzie, the only person I've heard do a good job with Sabbath vocals has been Rob Halford, during the odd guest appearance. Maybe it's the Brummie accent. |
First 3 are all stellar records.
|
I'd say the first 4.. except changes...
|
does changes make ya cry or somethin?
|
First six are all masterpieces, but if I have to choose, it is "Master of Reality".

Master Of Reality hands down. Who can deny classics like "Children Of The Grave" "Solitude" or "Lord Of This World"? Sure "Sweet Leaf" is a bit overplayed but nowhere near as bad as some of the stuff on Paranoid
|
Vol.4. Ive only got into Sabbath in the last year or so, but this is my favourite.
|
Defenitly Technical Ecstasy!
Just look at the artwork and the brilliant track were Bill ward is sining "It's alright". |
The first 6 albums, uninterrupted.

This. Then the next 3 still have some stellar songs. Then they ceased to exist (in my mind at least). |
I've got Paranoid and Masters of Reality on vinyl, but I really like Vol. 4. Really though, everything up to Sabotage is killer.
|
I like the first one the best. In fact I like the first six from high to low in the order that they came out except i like MOR a little more than I like Paranoid. I have, however, never listened to Technical Ecstasy. After thinking about it a little more I may like Sabotage a little more than I like SBS. Hole In the sky, Symptom of the Universe, The Writ, Radio... That record is really pretty good despite kinda having a sterile studio sound.

Too hard to choose, so many good ones, an unassailable stretch of 4 to 6 genre defining albums. I wouldn't choose it as my favorite, but no one has mentioned Never Say Die, which has some weak moments along with some extremely cool songs! the deluxe reissues of the first three have some truly awesome bonus cuts: instrumental takes/alternate takes/alternate lyrics/an unreleased song! apparently the band sued the label to prevent their release and lost, then the label went out of business in the great financial meltdown...
these are GOOOOOLDEN TREASUREs!: Beat Club video (this is what "music videos" should look like) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6y6_xJ0SCY (it looks like dick cheney's head in the background, which is somehow appropriate, as he's kind of an evil supervillan) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1G4JmbfvAQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awqx1BReegk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFLwgtkMFKc and Paris 1970 video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtqy4DTHGqg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59SdjZuhekk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiShfBmb-oA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzcC5mQBWDs& |

This one is tight!! HELLA GOOD. Everything up to and including Born Again is perfect...... won't/can't pick just one though........ |
Why all the hate for Changes in here? I think it and FX serve as a nice little lull between Tomorrow's Dream and the awesomeness that is Supernaut...

this is awesome, any info? |
For those desiring to get their Sabbath vinyl on, Insound has a great 8XLP Bundle going between now and November, 26th (Tuesday)......$124.99
|
I have all first 6 Sabbath albums on vinyl (master & Vol.4 are original spiral, Sabbath Bloody is some odd WWA-label, there is also "Made in England"-text, others are Nems-re-releases) and also 13 on vinyl. I am total analog-lover, never liked how cd sounds. But of course I have cd:s too, specially albums that have never released in vinyl.

My favorite Sabbath album is No. 4 closely followed by Master of Reality, which grows closer and closer to the #1 spot as the years go by.
Happy Birthday, Master! |

Yeah, great album, but for me it's probably my least favorite of the first 6. It still kicks almighty ass, but the rest of those records are just total fucking home runs. |

One of my students was showing me video he made from the Sabbath show here in LA that i actually wanted to go too but was too expensive.. it looked kick ass and i wished i could have gave him extra credit for being so fucking kick ass too

It didn't fucking happen. Black Sabbath broke up in 1978. Reunited in 2014. Everything in between is like alternate 1984 from Back to the Future. Fuck that shit. Biff didn't keep the almanac, and Dio is simply "that guy from Rainbow." |

SBS is golden, if Sabbath Mach-1 has a stinker it might be Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die, but I still like those. I saw the Sabs the last time they came around for 13, couldn't do it this time. I've been warming up to the Dio era after a long period of non-acknowledgement, but the 70s were the best. The things I am most excited by at the moment are flamenco, Spanish classical, & Morricone western soundtracks. |

Have to agree here. SBS is great. Not as great, perhaps, as Sabotage... but probably better in my opinion than s/t. Definitely better than Technical Ecstasy and Never Say Die, but I too like those albums well enough. I actually think Never Say Die is better than Technical Ecstasy... that album just got a little proggy in the wrong way. Never Say Die did it better. But I feel like Sabbath "mach1" ended with Sabotage. TE and NSD may have had the lineup and may have had the right components, but they're not part of that 6-album streak of near perfection. Still so much better than He Who Shall Not Be Named (yeah, I'm Voldemorting RJD) |
Technical Ecstasy is a tolerable record, it has its moments but its definitely at the bottom of the pile of Ozzy era Sabbath albums, indeed you should only listen to it at the end of a drunken Sabbath binge or randomly hear some tracks on Shuffle mode on your music player ;)

Fuck yeah Air Dance! That's my jam. |
Has no one sampled the drum break in Supernaut? If not, it must be for legal reasons, right? I kind of want to do that, or if I had the resources and the balls hire Bill Ward to record it again.
