Your DDN tour star.

Soooo, looks like the DDN tour finished, huh?
Well, here's a poll to vote the SY member that impressed you the most seeing them playing DDN live.
My vote goes for the "no star" (but in this case, star, ah aha) mister SS.
Unbelievably powerful, tight, precise and happy looking throughout the whole DDN set I witnessed. Close second Lee, he's my fav sonic, but after much deliberating I came to the conclusion that Steve kicked even more asses.

sonicl 09.06.2007 08:16 AM

Yeah, I vote Steve too. He always looks so happy in his work.

Where's the poll?

nicfit 09.06.2007 08:29 AM

should be at the top (I see it, maybe you posted too fast :D).

pantophobia 09.06.2007 08:32 AM

Kim, being the most hesistant to do the whole thing in the first place, she really got into it as they went along, and the best resurfaced songs turned out to be Kim's (Cross the Breeze is one of the best I have seen them do ever)

pokkeherrie 09.06.2007 08:35 AM

kim for playing the thunderbird and screeeeaming on eliminator jr. and singing the sprawl + 'cross the breeze.
steve for pounding away during silver rocket, 'cross the breeze, hey joni, rain king, trilogy, etc, etc.
lee for singing 4(!) songs on the thursday night in london.
thurston for still being the same thurston 20 years after.

but kim gets my vote for picking up that heavy bass again, regardless of how her wrists might have felt.

jennthebenn 09.06.2007 08:48 AM

i saw one DDN date, the one in NY (i have a review ready somewhere....).
the band were bottom to top outstanding and the sound was great. atop it
all, the pool at mccarren park is just a great place to see a show.

kim rocked hell with the t-bird and her vocal performance on every song.
and you know she was not the most enthused member about the whole
play DDN in order concept.

but to pick a standout, i used the "who impressed more on the lesser part
of the show?" in my opinion, the "lesser part" was "total trash". far from
a trainwreck, but the band was clearly still uncomfortable with it--weird
pacing, inconsistent energy. but during that "clearing all the pots and
pans from under the sink" middle, steve absolutely shined. he was
pounding the fuck out of his kit, absolutely grabbing that song by the
neck and DEMANDING it get back on its feet.

force and precision...the ss beat patrol.

sonicl 09.06.2007 08:58 AM

That's interesting - so far every vote has been for the rythmn section. And yet normally when people post about what makes SY what they are it's the guitars that get the focus.

screamingskull 09.06.2007 09:04 AM

i thought before the shows that Lee would impress me the most, but he actually impressed me the least, in person and during the show.

Thurston (the obvious choice) impressed me the most, he was just amazing!

Bal 09.06.2007 10:15 AM

dunno.
i love them all!
Thurston beeing the definition of cool.
Lee is the badboy guitar player. love his robot moves haha..
Kim is a Diva! big time!
Steve Shelley is the king of drums.
and mark ibold - i love him as well hes just cool and smiles a lot!

He was an unintentional bitch to us, yeah, but you gotta understand the shit bands have to do when on tour. That said, he forgot how to play the solo in Schizophrenia.

I voted Steve!

farmhouse 09.06.2007 10:48 AM

chris corsano.

nah, my vote goes to thurston . . . . just because he's most entertaining to watch . . . and his vocals are great.

Yeah, in ferrara seeing mark and steve look at each other smiling while playing was a great moment.
I did not include him in the poll just becuz this thread "aims" for the ddn songs, it's not that I forgot about him, eh!

purplebumblebee 09.06.2007 12:45 PM

Its gotta be Steve Shelley, he's such a delight to watch! So much energy in that man.

atsonicpark 09.06.2007 01:39 PM

steve shelley -- and i say this not as with a sonic youth bias at all but as a fan of music in general -- is one of the greatest drummers around and never EVER gets his due. sad.

sonicl 09.06.2007 01:46 PM

^
And THAT is why I shouted out for a drum solo when Lee's guitar broke down in Paris.

toxic johnny 09.06.2007 01:51 PM

It is Kim for me all the way... mainly for her energy during 'Cross The Breeze and especially during Eliminator Jr. (second night at the Roundhouse in particular)... as far as I'm concerned she is totally unrivaled.

king_buzzo 09.07.2007 03:37 AM

lee but I missed them all.

_slavo_ 09.07.2007 03:43 AM

Lee Ranaldo.

The Usher 09.07.2007 04:44 AM

Definately Lee, Kim seemed like she'd rather have been at home.
