Jah Bless Ed Templeton

CHOUT 04.13.2006 09:55 PM

Ed sure does have good taste in music. I remember a TWS profile where two of his top 5 favorite albums were Washing Machine and Sister.

I'm probably a lot older that most of the skater baters on here, but I remember when he was getting known, still on Schmitt Stix then The New Deal, which was a hugely popular company at the time. He used to always skate Huntington Beach high in nearly every photo and he was the king of Impossibles, a trick that I could never get close to doing.

I admire him as a skater and a person. He always has come across as down to earth and I had heard him speak out against homophobia, which you don't hear much from people in the skate industry.

I saw Ed and Vallely do a demo at a skatepark when their short-lived company TV was happening around '92.

All you skaters should seriously check out that Disposable book, with all the board graphics. Ed has a section in it.

marleypumpkin 04.13.2006 09:59 PM

Impossible is a very tough fucking trick, & Ed always made it look so simple.
I saw one video where he landed an Impossible to Crooked Grind.
FUCKING AWESOME!

Trasher02 04.14.2006 02:31 AM

He also wrote 6 books:The Prevailing Nothing, The Golden Age of Neglect, The Contagion of Suggestibility, Teenage Smokers, Situation Comedy, Dysfunctional, Young Sleek and full of Hell And Beautiful Losers...

The Ad's for Toymachine are also very funny...

He's a hero dude...

johnnywinternoshow 04.14.2006 06:08 AM

he was the first skater i liked when i first started, i didnt know why or if the things he did were any better than anyone elses, i just thought he was brilliant, it's been years since i "skated" in the loosest terms possible but i still try to check his stuff out on videos or whatever. I saw his "judas goat" show in london last year and absolutely loved it, I was in the gallery for hours checking to make sure that I hadn't accidently missed one of the pieces cus they were all so tightly packed. He had told the gallery he allowed people to take photos too which was amazing cus that kind of thing normally doesnt happen

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 08:25 AM

It's good to know I'm not a dumbass. (ha ha) Fucking hilarious.

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 09:50 AM

Thrasher02:

You wouldn't happen to know where I could get those books, would ya'?

Trasher02 04.14.2006 10:30 AM

I think you can get them on the toy site.
or check amazon or ebay

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 10:34 AM

Cool. I will definetly check those out. Great ads by the way.

Trasher02 04.14.2006 10:43 AM

I think they're hilarious. the whole "Buy toy or you are a doochebag" idea is fucking great

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 10:48 AM

Well, it's true. Isn't it?

Trasher02 04.14.2006 10:59 AM

Yeah actually it is.
Toymachine's newest movie Suffer the Joy wil be coming out soon. suffet the joy... squeezing the teet of patience untill it runs dry

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 11:02 AM

Hey, let's leak the new toymachine video. (ha ha) Just kidding.

Trasher02 04.14.2006 11:47 AM

Saw the Good and Evil vid yet?Good and Evil was a fucking awesome vid!

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 11:51 AM

Man, I haven't seen any new skate vids in a long ass time. I'm cheap.

Trasher02 04.14.2006 12:02 PM

yes you are.
Baker 3 is a masterpiece! all the runs were dope! except for the rapdudes they sucked ass.

John Violence 04.14.2006 04:06 PM

Antwan Dixon came out of nowhere on Baker 3. I think he only lifted his arms over his shoulders once on his whole part. Marleypumpin really needs to see Good and Evil. The intro is the best since Mislead Youth.

marleypumpkin 04.14.2006 08:41 PM

Well, I definetly know what the next skate movie I'm gonna get is.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Trasher02 04.15.2006 04:01 AM

buy toy or die

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 04:03 AM

& if you do decide to die, then, "Welcome To Hell". (me "trying" to be funny)

We need some more photo's up in this mutha. Find one w/ Ed wearing an SY shirt. I know someone posted one on the old board.

Trasher02 04.15.2006 04:08 AM

aaargh i think it's on the emerica website

i like this picture though!

Trasher02 04.15.2006 04:08 AM

damn i want those glasses

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 04:36 AM

Yeah, I've always wanted those glasses after seeing Kurt sport them all the time. I think they would be the perfect pair of skating glasses.

Trasher02 04.15.2006 04:43 AM

Dude i'm searching every shop i can to find such glasses but i just can't find 'em aaargh i want them sooooo bad.

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 04:46 AM

Let's see, what brand names do we know that would come out w/ a pair of glasses w/ style like that. Oakley is the obvious pick, but they look to simple to be Oakley's. Who else is there?

Trasher02 04.15.2006 04:50 AM

KREW makes such glasses too. cause Jim Greco seems be into weird glasses to

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 04:57 AM

I like those white ones man. Makes ya' feel like your skating in Skate Heaven.

Trasher02 04.15.2006 05:05 AM

i want them in red just like Josh Harmony has

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 05:09 AM

O.K., now we need to find more of Ed's artwork. I saw somewhere that he had painted a cathedral doorway w/ his toymachine characters & crazy backgrounds. It might have been on the toymachine site. I'll do some research.

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 05:48 AM

It's not an elabirite piece, but I like it.

Apparently it's signed by Ed, but I don't see it.

yodejelle 04.15.2006 06:14 PM

toy machine boards kick ass!
i had a transistor board 1ce

Trasher02 04.15.2006 06:17 PM

all the toy boards rock!
it's like having art on yr skateboard.
TAKE THAT DARKSTAR!!!

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 07:24 PM

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Darkstar. I had one once, & it lasted like 2 days or something lik that. DARKSTAR=Cheapies

Trasher02 04.16.2006 06:48 AM

why the fuck would you want to buy darkstar at the first place?:D

marleypumpkin 04.16.2006 07:06 AM

I hadn't heard that much about Darkstar before I bought the board. All I knew was that Gailea Monolu (that's probably spelled wrong) was riding for them at the time. & Gailea is one of my favorite skaters. That's the only reason.

yodejelle 04.16.2006 12:05 PM

gailea has sick nollie bigspin boardslides! :o

marleypumpkin 04.16.2006 12:29 PM

He's the master of flip to grind tricks.

marleypumpkin 04.16.2006 08:09 PM

I'm happy you got to have a great moment like that. Now, back to,
Ed Templeton. We need more artwork from Ed. That is the mission for you boardies.

uhler 02.25.2008 12:00 PM

probably my favorite skater ever. i like how he's vegan in a skate world that most skaters are basically sponsered by mcdonalds or only eat mcdonalds. anyway, i was flipping thru the new issue of the skateboarding mag and he's in the section entitled mypod and i knew he listened to some great music (he listed sonic youth and fugazi as his two favorite bands back in the 90's), but it was cool to see what he's been listening to lately. some of the bands he has on it are crass, the wipers, boris, rites of spring, husker du, lungfish, orange juice etc. etc.. rad skater and cool guy.
