I'm Insane: Classic or Dud?
I think it is an underrated classic. the lyrics might be random as heel, but damn they sound so genius and flow so well. The guitar noise throughout the song was really unprecedented in their career with all of the static action. I was watching Gila monster jamboree and before this songs kicks into gear, Lee comes out with this pot/gong thing and starts hitting it. Fucking brilliant. Whatd you think?
With lyrics and energy like it has?...classic, baby.
I imagine you'll be hard-pressed to find anyone here that would label it a "dud." |
It's good enough. Bad Moon Rising is their best album, and it's not the best track on there, but it does have a fantastic intro.
yeah no shit. It's no dud. It's the first song by sonic youth that, for one, scared the fuck out of me, and two, made me realize that this was more than your average indie, hipster band.
It is the best song on Bad Moon Rising, fuck yeah.
yeah, great song. love the dark, erie vibe that song (and the entire BMR album) has.
It's the track that turned me into them too.
it's great
It's a fine tune, with lyrics that are the perfect accompaniment.
This is a big favorite for me. My favorite SY lyrics ever.
The lyrics make for good usernames.

Kissmyfist
Toughtowncrueltouch Sexinheaven (and of course hot eyed bride) |
I love this song. The way it starts... oh man.
I must be the only one who was disappointed with it upon the first few listens. I thought the title was so cool, but was initially disappointed with the song to what I expected it to be. I grew to dig it, but to me one of the lesser tracks on the album.
classic for motha' fuckin' shore
one of my favorites off bmr. the lyrics are fucking rad.

Love it.

Well I'm sorry if you feel this thread is useless, but in fact, some sonic youth songs are not liked by everyone. This song has been talked down before and i really got into it the other night and wanted to know everyones opinion. Myabe i should have done a song of the day discussion instead of a C or D?
Thanks for that comment Porkmarras!
Im insane is one of my favorite SY tracks ever. Great beyond any words that I can think to type! We want out, we fish at night Sex in heaven, a tough town a cruel touch |
Nice to see this great song getting some love. It's a bit more lyrical than a lot of SY and the music is outright old school industrial (as in EN, Throbbing Gistle school not NIN!) I've always loved it, and the line "She was significant, I'm insane" is some of Thurston's best writing.
One of the best on Bad Moon Rising, I love this song.
lets face it, the lyrics are ridiculous but theres certain lines that jump out at you, the houseboy hillbilly one in particular. Its a very unnerving song which i love.
Quote:
Well, they're ridiculous in the way that a schizo's conversation style is ridiculous, but that's the whole point of the song! |
I'm Insane is also one of the best tunes by Ratt ever (second-to-last song on Out of the Cellar.) But I bet I'm the only person here who cares about that.
I'm suprised nobody has mentioned how Thurston "wrote" the lyrics to the song, yet. All the phrases are from various pulp paperbacks strung together to create this great lyric.
i just got bad moon rising, so ill have a listen to it.
i think i only need like 3 more to complete sy |
Just got BMR?? You've been on the board at least 3 years haven't you?
What 3 do you still need to get? |
I remember once being baked iwth my friend in my car--he;'d borrowed the cd for near 6 months with no listen so i made him listen to it as we toked--- when i'm insane came on i got excited and heard, for the first time, the slinking monster machine guitar sounds walking back and forth behind the music. It's deep in the mix and gives it a certain unsettling feel til you find it. You can imagine a monster made of tin cans and loose wires sparking and boxing left and right dropping bolts and firing ones of lightning.

Well, Kim used to say Ratt was one of her favorite bands when that album was out. Though I could never tell if she was bullshitting or not. She was a big Red Kross fan for real, so maybe that's not too far away. |
fucking classic. it used to scare the shit out of me when i was a little kid and my mom would play it.
