Downers? There may be handful of people here who thrive on negativity, but it's bit much to tar us all with the same brush.

i was, but take a look at the thread titles....it could perhaps be that the big downers are the people who wont shutup....perhaps the happier/chill people should post more often...or maybe i've stumbled upon an excellent correlation....

In other words, a bunch of fucking brats.
Self-centered, willfully ignorant and shittily-grinning ego-to-megalo-maniacs just to clarify. And it's not like "what you find anywhere in any community." The virtual anonymity of the internet, which could be used to humbly gain information, is instead abused as a mask to behave badly and to cover the fact that ne'er-do-wells know very little about very little.

And there's a lot of jealousy that drives much of the observable behavior.

I learned this, but I have still not acted upon what I have learned and truly accepted this. With acceptance will come wisdom, but, as it is with many other people, it requires a lifetime to truly accomplish.

The irony here is that from davenotdead's post, it appears as if he wants things here to be more superficial, whereas everyone (including myself) has been responding as if he were inquiring about the opposite.

I think that its all relative. The supposed morose vibe of this place is relative to what you pit it against. Example, the SY board is clouds and sunshine compared to some of the emo boards that exists and maybe the lot of us aren't exactly chipper all day/everyday but I think that is called reality.

We all have stories we could tell and some do.

On the other hand we all have things we are grateful for: music, visual art, literature, the outdoors, whatever your cup of tea.

So let us the communal boardies enchant ourselves however we want, maybe we are in a dejected state and thats ok. Keep this in mind, sure as you were born the fun will return.

This is no reason though to not work at perfecting your will. To do that would be a pessimistic reliquishment of your responsibilites as a living human being. To do that would be to miss the point and meaning of life itself, so please do not misunderstand me, or otherwise twist my words to fit into whatever prison you have conditioned for yourself.

I don't find the gradual disentigration of the ego pessimistic. I refer to that spiritual and psychological process as Possibility.

atari, no, i cant stand to be around superficial people....i just found it odd that the mood seems to be mostly glum around here...maybe it is the weather having something to do with it ( wasn't this mentioned in another thread?)...maybe it is the fact that SY is a noise band, and this forum is simply indicative of how noise fans are...perhaps there would be more love on here if SY started dropping acid and channeling their inner hippies for their next album? perhaps an influx of hippies would make the vibe here much more chill, though i could also see them clashing with the more outspoken on here...

What follows is equally obvious, that coming here requires a price you pay as a trade-off. If you like Sonic Youth and do not want to miss out on Sonic Youth news, downloads that are posted here, and the various other informative and/or entertaining tidbits from time-to-time, then you unfortunately have to put up with a lot of bullshit that eventually permeates its way into your brain.

I wouldn't either but from what anyone can surmise about these people is their inherent love of a sullen, gloomy, downcast persona.

Seriously, though, I chalk it up to the drug abuse, at least on my part.

it's like the board has a cycle that goes like this-

We are all here, maybe a main event of the week will be someone posting a good picture of themselves, or a great conversation.

Every now and then people get moody, men on here become perves, old posters get anoyed at newer younger outspoken posters, or the board gets crouded with trolls.

it certainly does have its cycles. sometimes things are a bit boring or shitty but if you sit them out then things get better i tend to find.
