Sonic Youth Unveil Rarities Comp Tracklist
http://static.pitchforkmedia.com/ima...outh06-sm.jpg? Just in time for indie rock OGs everywhere making their holiday wish lists, Sonic Youth's previously reported rarities compilation, The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Rarities, comes out December 12 on Geffen. And now, it has a tracklist. Three of the 12 tracks are previously unreleased, and most of them are culled from their 21st Century output, including the 2001 Noho Furniture Sessions. Noho-ho?!

Tracklist:
01 Fire Engine Dream [2003, previously unreleased Sonic Nurse outtake]
02 Fauxhemians [2001, from the Noho Furniture Sessions and the All Tomorrow's Parties 1.1 compilation]
03 Is It My Body? [1991, from the 2 x 7" Alice Cooper Tribute]
04 Razor Blade [1994, B-side from the "Bull in the Heather" single]
05 Blink [1999, from the Pola X soundtrack]
06 Campfire [2000, from the At Home With the Groovebox compilation]
07 Loop Cat [2003, from the You Can Never Go Fast Enough compilation]
08 Kim's Chords [2003, Japanese bonus track from Sonic Nurse]
09 Beautiful Plateau [2003, Japanese bonus track from Sonic Nurse]
10 Three Part Sectional Love Seat [2001, previously unreleased track from the Noho Furniture Sessions]
11 Queen Anne Chair [2001, previously unreleased track from the Noho Furniture Sessions]
12 The Diamond Sea [1995, LP version with alternate ending; B-side from "The Diamond Sea" single]

Just twelve? I thought there would be more.

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:30 PM

Thx, pantophobia.

Intellivision 10.30.2006 06:32 PM

There's nothing "new", & that sucks.

I cannot believe they would leave off "Think it Over" and put that "Campfire" bullshit on there!

Intellivision 10.30.2006 06:35 PM

oh lookee you edited out "fantastic!"

You'll be in the minority that thinks this tracklist is any good, trust me.

oh and now Hip Priest has just deleted his post. I suppose I should have quoted him like everyone does me.

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:36 PM

WHo you talking to? Me?

toxic johnny 10.30.2006 06:39 PM

Thanks for the scoop Panto... hmmmmmmmmm my first thoughts are do we really need both Kim's Chords and Beautiful Plateau on this compilation... one would have sufficed I think... it is quite an interesting and odd combination of songs though... I have everything apart from the Noho Furniture sessions tracks and the outtake from Sonic Nurse... can't wait to hear those... ...on vinyl?. It it coming out on vinyl as well??

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:39 PM

Whatever.

well, some of those tracks are quite long... like the 26 minute version of the diamond sea.

but actually i already have all of those on original cd, except for the unreleased ones of course and blink (i don't have the pola x soundtrack) so i'm slightly disappointed, but i'll buy it anyway for the unreleased stuff that was only on the sonic mixtapes.

there! see how easy that was, geffen?

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:42 PM

I think I should put you on the ignore list, but your post are rather amusing, because all they are is gibberish.

atari 2600 10.30.2006 06:45 PM

Danny Himself 10.30.2006 06:47 PM

I'll still buy this, but I'm sorta disappointed. I wanted some stuff of of the Master-Dik EP.

Stop projecting your own sucky qualities onto me via negative transference; it only makes you seem all the more pathetic.

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:48 PM

Whatever.

Intellivision 10.30.2006 06:50 PM

"Whatever" is yr favorite word.

scott v 10.30.2006 06:52 PM

Can't complain too much i guess but i'm not too keen of that Alice Cooper cover "Is it My Body?" being on this since it already appears on the Deluxe Edition of Dirty...

I mean b-side comps like this are usually geared for the heavy duty fanatics and i think a different track could've been choosen, or maybe not... was sorta hoping for the Daydream Nation Deluxe Edition before this, but beggars may not be choosers.

static-harmony 10.30.2006 06:54 PM

Yeah, but I have not heard many of these. So I will probably get it.

Exactly...because you are a noob.

and you suck.

pokkeherrie 10.30.2006 07:01 PM

some suggestions for The Bedroom: B-sides and Rarities part deux

j'accuse ted hughes (ok it's not a studio track, so what?)
street sauce
think it over (plus other stuff from things behind the sun soundtrack)
the entire kali yug express ep

Intellivision 10.30.2006 07:03 PM

"Campfire" blows.

pantophobia 10.30.2006 07:06 PM

it's a pretty good collection for a casual fan (and exactly what is a casual SY fan? dirty goo in the washing machine?)

i just wonder if they is any pressure from universal or inclination from the band to put out a 1990-present retrospective best of aka corporate ghost on cd

it's kinda to the point where they should release a box set cause there is so much material to sift through

this compilation (called Destroyed Room which is not even on the fucking thing and Is it my body? is???) really seems like that Nirvana best of the box which just focused on demos and not studio b-sides

Bal 10.30.2006 07:07 PM

no 'think it over'

Yeah, I agree with you there. I expected this to be at least a two-cd set. It feels like it was made pretty lazily. They could have put muchhh more on it.

the ikara cult 10.30.2006 07:18 PM

It seems very uncomprehensive. You could include the Fall covers at least which are a great laugh, if youre even hoping to get a marginally casual fan to buy it. It seems like a greatest hits only designed to milk a different audience.

Washing Machine 10.30.2006 08:57 PM

Hmm im guessing its a SY comprise, Geffen probebly wanted to do a quick 'Hits' compilation, so they agreed to do this instead. Athough in fairness a 'Hits' compilation is well over due, it probebly wouldn't be of much interest to us but i remember when I was just getting into SY a compilation would have been a handy starting point. If they did, the best way they could do it is like The Beatles did with the Red and Blue compilations, 1981-1989, 1990-1999, 2000 - ????

whorefrost 10.30.2006 09:04 PM

odd selection indeed... hmmm.... cool, i guess

whorefrost 10.30.2006 09:10 PM

I've heard at least half these songs... a lot of it seems throwaway/rehearsal stuff... weird mix of compilation cash in and esoteric track selection... i'm confused and horny... yield to me

i have always though a decade based compilation would work quite well for them, i never liked the tracklisting for screaming fields of sonic love and it seemed rather incomplete

noisemachine 10.30.2006 09:46 PM

Im not impressed with the tracklisting. Seems very random and thrown together at the last minute. Since im pretty sure only big fans of SY will buy this, they should have just done a box set and put everything in it, similar to the cure's connect the dots box or the recent nirvana one. Would much rather shell out a little extra cash for a nice, well thought out and compiled multi-disc set instead of just a few random odds and ends. That being said, I will probably buy this anyways for the songs on there I dont have yet.

hey alex 10.30.2006 11:33 PM

Yeah.... i don't think I'm buying this. I have thrashfest still.

SonikJesus 10.31.2006 12:44 AM

Is that the 25 minute Diamond Sea? I've been wanting to buy the Diamond Sea single online but haven't gotten around to it. It's pretty expensive too. If it is, looks like I won't need that single. But I'll probably still get it.

Just woke up:) Thanks for the info Pantophobia.
Here is a little more:

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003316933

"The 12-track set will also be released as a double-vinyl set early next year on the band's own Goofin' Records label."

Pax Americana 10.31.2006 01:24 AM

Wow, that track list is kind of a let down. I'll still get it though.

krastian 10.31.2006 01:26 AM

^Same....a cd of at least half unreleased/unheard stuff would have been swell.

noisemachine 10.31.2006 01:43 AM

I wonder what the cover art will look like.

m^a(t)h 10.31.2006 02:08 AM

why dont they release a dvd of one of their early shows. like that '82 art gallery show. Or the '83 communist tent party show they had on their homepage a little while ago. I dont get it. People would love that stuff, and eat it right up....

Toxa 10.31.2006 04:12 AM

cool
