Whats your favourite Sleater-Kinney album?

????

mine is 'The Hot Rock' quickly followed by 'Dig Me Out'.

AllHandsOnTheBigOne 10.26.2006 12:27 PM

The Woods. Hands down.

jennthebenn 10.26.2006 12:37 PM

i look forward to being the only vote for all
hands.

PAULYBEE2656 10.26.2006 12:43 PM

I Only Have The Woods And One Beat, Both Are Really Good But I Just Got The Debut One And I Am Lovin It. Really Suprised Me How Good It Actually Is....

gmku 10.26.2006 12:45 PM

I have only One Beat so I can only vote for that one. I do like it.

I like the one where they forgot to press the record button.

gmku 10.26.2006 01:56 PM

Too bad, 'cos that's my vote too... really, beause it's the only one I have heard in full aside from The Woods, which didn't really make much of a dent on me.

pantophobia 10.26.2006 03:39 PM

great thread, the best album band by far

Call the Doctor is Corin's best record, a very early peak, Carrie's voice is at the rawest it has ever been

Dig Me Out is a frenetic blast of energy, Janet's arrival rounds out the band with the larger sound it was missing

The Hot Rock is Carrie's breakout album, the most depth, the best collection of songs, but i think the production makes it suffer, otherwise it would be the best

All Hands on the Bad One, seems like a step back from there they could have gone at this point, very soft, but then again this only 15 months after the previous one

One Beat is a masterpiece, political themes can certainly go really wrong sometimes, not here, to date my Favorite album of all time

The Woods is the best production of them all by far, my final verdict isn't in, could possibly overtake One Beat

noisemachine 10.26.2006 04:00 PM

I really like Call the Doctor, but they are all awesome.

krastian 10.27.2006 12:09 AM

I'm still going with Dig Me Out. It's great that they went out on top.

evollove 10.27.2006 02:50 PM

why does the production make hot rock suffer? Like, they spent 8 days on it and not the usual 3? 'Coz it's got a violin? It's super underrated. Talk about production...the Woods has got to be one of the worst sounding records I've heard in a while.

So Pent's gonna kick Hot down a few notches because the production's too good (???) and I'm gonna kick Woods down a few 'cause the production sux. To each their own...

dazedcola 10.27.2006 02:52 PM

I think Dig Me Out and the Woods tie for first. I love them both too much, i cant decide one over the other.

i just think there isn't as full a sound on some of the songs as there could have been, i think the mids are fine but the low-end seems lacking on songs that have a booming sound like end of you, don't talk like, or how one song for you is kinda missing a little in the high-end , it's a little to lo-fi for how big their sound was becoming at that point (jet set is an album that is also a little to lo-fi after coming off of dirty which was pretty lush, but thats another discussion)

perhaps yeah the woods over does the low-end by a bit but it was the fullest recording they ever did and i think the hot rock is missing a little from that, call the doctor and dig me out work for the song style of the time

screamingskull 12.13.2006 05:30 PM

this one is growing on me.

!@#$%! 12.13.2006 05:36 PM

too hard! too hard!

i can't choose.

i know the 1st one isn't my favorite. other than that...

WHAT PANTOPHOBIA SAID.

finding nobody 12.13.2006 05:45 PM

The Woods is the only one I've heard. I do enjoy it though

porkmarras 12.13.2006 05:48 PM

The one where they stop singing like women with a bad period on a rainy day.

Well, tampons for mouths can be sexy if you try to think long and hard.

Kylerobert 12.13.2006 07:38 PM

the woods was recorded terribly..the distortion sounds like it was recorded through the mic input on a computer

Everyneurotic 12.14.2006 01:36 AM

dig me out or the woods i guess, i hardly listen to them.

Which doesn't meen it is an ill-made decision - the song is excellent - but anyone familiar with the trio would probably find that song (which, at times, sounds uncomfortably similar to Sonic Youth's "Tunic") to be unrepresentative of the album as a whole.

what???, how does that song sound like tunic??????

now, porkie, we're not secretly harboring any sociopathic tendencies, are we?

Dead-Air 12.14.2006 10:12 PM

I've seen them from the beginnings in Oly, but I never liked them as much as Excuse 17 or Heavens to Betsy the two groups they formed from the remains of. Never hated them, but never understood all the fuss either. Honestly, I think the press showed up in Oly looking for the legendary "grrl" bands, and Bikini Kill had already left the building, so Sleater Kinney got all the roses.

val-holla-ing 12.14.2006 11:15 PM

it's a toss up between "all hands on the bad one" and "one beat". i like the woods a whole lot, but it's almost too atmospheric for me or something.

"i wanna be your joey ramone" is one of my favorite songs, though.

edit: "one beat" gets my vote. the opening drums on that album are so fucking raunchy.

Concept7or8 12.15.2006 09:22 AM

'all hands on the bad one' ,'one beat', or 'dig me out', can't choose, or at least it depends on my mood. Thought 'the woods' was an emotional rollercoaster at first... too much, once i listened to it a while i got used to it and then bored of it.

any news on what each of the lasses is planning next? new groups formed or anything?
