Joy Division
nothing like "unknown pleasures"....classic...i love the spaciousness of the sound, does anyone know what I mean?
hell yes! I love that album!
I know exactly what you mean. The whole album just has this great atmosphere about it. Beautifully stark.
Great Album. It's a classic just as much Closer is.
Also worth noting that Martin Hannett recorded that as he did all or most of their records. He also did the Psychedelic Furs earlier work and deserves some credit.
almostas godo as raher rippedd lawlawl
Unknown pleasure is superb, however I still prefer Closer because of the great tragic atmosphere it posesses
and also Permanent....the song Digital is just splendid. any of you seen 24 hour party people? go check it out, there's much about Joy Division, Happy Mondays etc stuff |
as much as i love closer and unknown pleasure, somehow i always end up listening substance and reciving multiple orgasams from it. Substance is like their 3rd album, complete masterpiece with bunch of non-album songs which are joy division must-have. and 24 hour party people is fuckin excellent!
"I'm being postmodern, before it's fashionable." - tony wilson |
yeah, Substance kicks ass.
Yeah the 'spaciousness' you are talking about i understand whereas 'Closer' has more of an incubated, almost claustrophobic sound.
love love fuckin love
Curtis is a legend. i fuckin love Joy Division. Saw 24hr Party people also _slavo_ love the Joy Division bits they are right good, the worst thing about that flick is the whole Happy Mondays bits, if its an actor playing Shaun Ryder or actually Shaun Ryder himself its all the same, they are a complete waste of space. love Ian Curtis though, the book about his life "touching from a distance" is well worth a read. |

i like that band a lot but when every untalented fashion victim decides they can cover their songs and just change it enough so it gets so beaten it resembles horse's puke, then i don't feel like listening to them.
plus, they are massively overrated right now, they are these last couple of year's nirvana. |
i wonder if ian curtis liked Rather Ruipped

Yes! Closer is one of my favorite albums ever! |
Closer is great. It's also the only JD album I have.
i love closer but haven't really listened to pleasures. Closer is great, but i think substance has their best songs. The singles that hit the nail on the head in 3 minutes. They're great without having to devote a whole album of listening. Komankino, digital, transmission, and, of course, love will tear us apart.
I love 24 hr party ppl too. I got it from used stuff store by trading some anime that was my kick of middle school, good idea. |
Closer > Unknown Pleasures.
Sorry. |
All of their albums are great (including Substance and parts of Still).
Digital is the shit.
Their best song, in my opinion. |
the eternal is their finest moment i think. the live half of still is incredible. jd final gig. after the 2nd last song you can hear ians mic hitting the ground as he has a seizure. joy division the only 100% true emo band.
i only ever got into closer.
and into it i did so get. ill have to take a little expedition into the earlier work. i bought unknown pleasures from cash converters and didnt check the vinyl. scratched to fuck. i hate cash converters. |
Closer & Unknown Pleasures.
Hahaha, I got fucking drunk with my boss yesterday and we ended up at 6am throwing coins into jukebox and playing "Love will tear us apart" over and over again. The other two favourites of the night were "Here comes your man" by the Pixies and Radiohead's "Idioteque". Neat fella, unlike most of the bosses.
I love them all, but substance has everything
3..5..4...1..2...5...GO! |
1. substance
2. unknown pleasures 3. closer wonderful band, everything they ever released is great! and new order is even better... |
Joy Division SUCK!
i saw chan marshall yesterday mocking ian curtis singing "she lost control" while banging on the e string...it was hilarious.
i saw her mocking mick jagger
I saw her mocking and demeaning herself.
she also made fun of nick cave, it was hilarious!
she's funny
Speaking of Joy Division, Swing Kid's cover of Warsaw is the best cover ever.
i've only got Closer and it is amazing. im getting the others ASAP.
I used to think Unknown Pleasures was alot better than Closer, but now I probably love them equally. UP has more total classics on it (Disorder, She's Lost Control, New Dawn Fades etc.) but Closer is probably just as good as a whole. I always it was a shame that UP doesn't have a better closing track. Closer does, Decades is totally amazing!
Joy Division are for sure one of the best bands ever. New Dawn Fades is probably my favourite song by them. |

yeah, it does rule... new order rock too, early pre ibiza new order that is. |
![]() Everyday, we bring you the best thing we've seen on YouTube -- a great piece of archive footage, a music promo or a clip from one of our favourite movies of TV shows. Today: Watch Joy Divison performing “She’s Lost Control” and a fantastic version of “Shadowplay” in a pub in 1979. The opening credits say it is filmed in “Altringham: A suburb of Manchester” and it is directed by Malcolm Whitehead. The footage is filmed in beautifully textured Super 8mm and lasts a superb 7 minutes. Ian Curtis really can dance like a kung fu robot. You don’t get pub bands like this nowadays. Love the album!
