Milwaukee Show
OK, since I'm always on here asking for the setlist to shows I can't be at, I am not going to be a hypocrite, so here is tonights!
Soundcheck: Sunday, Stones, Reena, Neutral, Skip Tracer (Yes that's right, I am not making that up!) Schizo Reena Incinerate What A Waste Mote Do you Believe In Rapture Kool Thing Sleepin Around Rats Jams Run Free Pink Steam Or ---- Turquoise 100% (with two stage divers. Lee called out security, something like "Hey, security guards, don't be so rough" ----- Lee's apology to security, saying they were justified cause someone really was out of control. Lights Out Shakin Hell If you were one of the people hanging out front with me, leave a post. You all were really cool and it was nice to be around people that appreciate this band as much as I do. The past two days were great. My first two shows, Lollapalooza yesterday and then this. Met Thurston yesterday as he was walking to film Built To Spill's set, then got to meet the rest of the band today after soundcheck. Then, managed to get first row against the stage in front of Thurston, and got his pick and setlist. I will post it when I get a pic scanned. I'm not bragging, but just want to share my excitement with those that can appreciate it. I don't have many friends that dig SY. Enjoy the rest of the tour, for those of you lucky enough to go! |
you really didn't need to make two threads.
|
Yeah, definitely an awesome show. We had been there since 1:00, so we got first dibs on seats. Front and center leaning on the stage, baby.
|
that's great.
thanks for review! can't wait for boot, if somebody have taped it. yeah, send that pic. |
I have pictures and videos too, if anyone is interested.
Thurston bumped into my hand with his socked foot. :) |
what do you mean... videos?
like from whole set? of course we're interested! |
Goddamn great show! Schizo was so fucking awesome to begin. I was so pissed becuz I was about to get my picture taken after the show between Kim and Thurston when my fucking camera battery died! Fuck! Someone else ended up taking my pic with Thurston and another with Lee............But still the first picture would have been too good. The stage diving was hilarious and Thurston calling Nike "politically bogus" and him wearing socks was just fucking funny. It was kool hanging out with The first ten people for around 8 or so hours and I'll see you folks around. Man, Steve was in a rush to get somewhere after the gig. He just looked at me, said Hi and boogied away from their bus down some other street. Lee is so friendly. I kept hearing on this forum that he seemed to be in a rush. Steve fits into that category better. Thurston:tall as ever and hip as ever. Kim saying softly, "It's so quiet right now" when I was getting my vinyl signed as people stared in awe at her was funny. Thurston stole my permanent marker. Enjoy. Yeah I snapped about 80 pics, so ill be posting. Great show and goddamn I hugged Kim's leg when she was thrusting her body in my face during "What a Waste". Dreamy.....................Sonik love to you all that were there and those that couldnt make it.
Sonic always, Joe |
I have two videos from the show. The first is a clip of Kim during "Kool Thing", standing right over me. The second is "Do You Believe In Rapture?".
Sorry there isn't much-- my camera unfortunately has the memory of a goldfish. Kool Thing: http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c92/igetmyflushotsatwalgreens/?action=view¤t=sonicyouth013.flv&refPage=&im gAnch=imgAnch1 Do You Believe In Rapture? http://s25.photobucket.com/albums/c92/igetmyflushotsatwalgreens/?action=view¤t=sonicyouth014.flv&refPage=&im gAnch=imgAnch1 I also have a few pictures, if anyone wants to see. Before the show, Lee came out and took a picture of my shirt with his phone, which is definitely cool. |

Yeah I remeber that. That was a relly kool shirt. You make it with stencil? Where are you going to post yr pics? I'll get mine up soon. I'm the boy with the pink floral jacket yesterday. |
Excellent work by the youth last night...i felt like i could watch them forever----Loved it when Kim called the crowd old school
|

Haha, yeah! I definitely remember you. Yes, I stenciled the shirt. I'm reallllly hoping that Lee showed Thurston those pictures. The crowd that gathered when he was taking them was a little overwhelming, though. I'll probably put my pictures in a Photobucket account, as well as the videos. I don't have too many, maybe ten?. The lighting was terrible for my camera and I really didn't want to blind Kim with flash, so I said 'screw it, I'm done'. The second guy that jumped the stage kicked my boyfriend in the head when he jumped off. I'm pretty happy the people behind me didn't catch him. He went SMACK! on the floor. It was so hilarious to see the security/stage dude go ballistic on Lee when Lee said "Hey, take it easy!". I thought he was going to rip his arm off. I got picked up about five minutes before Kim came outside afterwards. DAMMIT! MY boyfriend got my DDN and Rather Ripped CD booklets signed by everyone except Steve, though. P.S.- I got a really good view up Kim's minidress. |
amazing amazing show...my boyfriend finally got to see "kool thing" live
after 21 SY shows. only blights were the douchebag during "100%" (security had every right to be rough with him, and i'm glad lee apologized; the history of live shows is rife with instances of asshole security brutalizing excited concertgoers who present no harm, but this was definitely not an example of that); and that guy who screamed "PAVEMENT! PAVEMENT ROCKS! NEXT TIME YOU COME BRING PAVEMENT!" when thurston intro'd mark. if said guy happens to be a poster on this here forum, hey, love your enthusiasm. not loving it so much RIGHT IN MY FUCKING EARS THOUGH. i would like to see a few pics of thurston shoeless, haha. we were on lee's side, unusual for us, and patrick didn't get a great shot of thurston sans nikes. |

Very nice. I got to pet her leg during What A Waste! Stimulating I must say. Yea Steve was in a big hurry. He came out and since I was first in line for autographs, he said Hi to me and then boogied. Oh well. Thurston, Kim and Lee made my heart stop. Sonic Love! Yea, Kim was a real sex-demon last night. She's around 50 (don't know exact age) and I'm still attracted to her. Sorry Thurston, but Kim's a babe. Not in a gross pornographical way am I attracted to Kim of course. She's just.........wonderful. But yea it was a lot of fun and send me a link to your photos when theyre up. Ill do the same with my 80 photos or so and vids. Cheers. Sonic always, joe |

Cool
Wow! Stellar set list! I hope they play it verbatim at the Kool Haus gig in Toronto tommorow.

...and I was right next to you, that was an amazing show too. |
I liked the octopus on your shirt, CROATOAN.
|
Amazing show. One of the security guards bumped into me when they were taking one of the stage divers out. It took like four of them and they were holding him by his arms and legs.
Here are my pictures: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shitty quality, I know. But they're pictures! What did you guys think of The Go! Team? |
Yeah the stage diving was funny. Thurston shoeless was even funnier. I thought Go! Team was good but of course there's always that want for sonic youth to come on. They put on a good opening act though.

Cool ass shirt Prisstina!!
|
Good Kim pic.
|
Thurston says as he takes off his shoes, "Well, Nike is politically bogus anyway." <crowd laughs>
|
I so wanted to take those shoes.

I almost yelled out "PLAY THE BURNING SPEAR" just to mock the croud. :) I don't like it when crowds only want to hear the older stuff, that must annoy the band a little, I know i would be. |
Quote:
Thanks, the orange octopus is kindof my bands mascot. I admit, Lee taking a picture of your shirt made me a little bit jealous inside.:) I can't imagine how much joy you felt. |
Quote:
I totally wasn't expecting it. I was actually afraid to wear it because I didn't want to look corny. I really wanted Thurston to see it, but I suppose Lee seeing it and taking a picture is even better than Thurston glancing at it and saying nothing. I did feel joy, but I also felt embarassment due to the dozens of people that gathered around Lee and stared right up at me. You should have jumped in the picture! Lets make a deal; next time Sonic Youth plays in Milwaukee and Lee takes a picture of my shirt, you can join me in the picture. |

The crowd was SO rude. If I were a SY member I would be totally pissed. Angellah told me she heard someone yell "THURSTON IS A FAG!". Not to mention I was right by this chick that was completely drunk, trying to grab Kim's foot, waving her arms in other peoples' faces and tossing the contents of her drink over her shoulder so it landed on someone's arm. My boyfriend yelled out "THE WORLD LOOKS RED!" as loud as he could. |
I'll be yelling "SKIP TRACER" tonight, since I know there's a chance they'll play it since it was soundchecked a few nights ago :)

what a great show. hanging out with the 1:00'ers was probably my favorite part. i've never met a more pleasant group of fans. and especially thank you to the guy who sold me his extra ticket. what a life-saver. and to kurt and his friend for the ride. also, the crowd was incredibly polite otherwise. no one shoved, and i had more than enough space (i was leaning on the stage and had room to wiggle) :) |

I think someone in front of me yelled "HOW WAS CHRISTMAS?!" if I heard him correctly, hm. I'm glad I'm not claustrophobic, otherwise I would've died since I'm only 5' 2" and everyone around me was SOO tall. I had to like, stand on my tippy-toes and hold the camera way above my head to get those (shit-quality) pictures. |

I actually thought the same thing. It seemed like their was a hipster / scenester crowd at the show. I thought it was a good show, but it definitely does not rank as my all time favorite SY show. I just felt people still acted like they were at the rave or a bar compared to seeing an amazing band at a top notch venue. I was upset because all around it seemed like people were smoking grass / cigaretttes (in a historic non smoking theatre), drinking the cheap pbrs and throwing them on the ground to wash on other's feet, and just acting like idiots throughout the show (either talking to others or shouting stupid shit at the band). Grant it I was not in the pit, but I was 10 rows dead center. The latest few shows I have seen at the Pabst had a more mature / music loving audience (eels, cline / kotche, neko case). I just don't want the venue to stop from having shows and it seems like crowds like keep showing up, a good theater will stop having them there. I think the crowd really tainted my view of the show. Even to the point that it seemed 100% even suffered do to idiots trying to be cool and stage dive - I thought we did not have to relive the 90s, but I guess so. I even feel they cut things short just do to the crowds actions throught out the night. I did think the new album sounded amazing and I am glad so many you enjoyed it. |
gotta love it when the taper is also the seeder...so futurist.
|
Quote:
When I heard they were playing the Pabst, I got totally excited, because I thought it would be such a intimate place for a show. It seemed like a crazy Rave show, which pissed me off. I'm sure plenty of people there really had no respect for the band, and it showed. |
